AMEN. Hundreds of people dying fighting for their basic human rights vs. one person dying probably because of misusing drugs and anesthesia. Whats more important? |

I think it is silly to try and decide which events are more valuable to report on than others. There is horrifying stuff going on across the world everyday that gets no attention from the media. People are dying everyday right here in DC for a number of reasons - I don't see folks clamoring for that in the news.
Are we naive about what drives the media and their decisions about what makes news? We do. We buy the tabloids and elevate celebrities to ridiculous heights. And I am an MJ fan. These days any chance the media gets to make money - they will take it. Bottom line is people wanted to see the memorial and people wanted to remember MJs talents. The doesn't mean it trumps other stuff that's going on - in a few weeks this will be over. |
| Yawn. |
Your altruism is just so heart warming. I keep pictures of starving babies myself up around the house to remind me that there are greater things in life than TMZ and People Magazine. |

Certainly some of you posting must realize we need some coverage of things that unify us - many generations and billions of people around the world knew MJ.
If something happened to my child, yes, it would be the end of my world, but other than my DH's and our grandparents and close family and friends, no one would really care that much. Clearly this is why some people's death get coverage and other's don't. The unifying factor. |
Excellent point. |

"As much as I LOATHE Al Sharpton, I have never agreed with him more when he addressed MJs children:
"I want his children to know there was nothing strange about your daddy, it was strange what your daddy had to deal with." Just because you are odd and extremely eccentric does not make you a criminal. Certainly he was a high degree of wacko, but ALL of us do strange things that if we lived under a microscope and had no inhibitions to exhibit our eccentricities, we might raise pleanty of eyebrows. So what if he altered his face, what does it grant us the right to excuse or not excuse him? If your extremely abusive father told you from the day you were born that you looked too black and were too ugly, it would probably cause any of us to have a body dysmorphic disorder BDD. This is a medical condition, same as depression and anxiety and can be very severe such as MJs case. It would not shock me if his death was a suicide, as BDDs have double the suicide rate as people suffering from depression." Not strange? You can say (I wouldn't, but some people could) he was wrongfully accused, unjustly persecuted, hounded by the media, nothing was ever proven (hey, to some people (not me), he's just like Sarah Palin!), etc. - but "not strange?" Come on. Do you know what strange means? |
OMG a new vocabulary word, can you please expound in careful and elborate detail the meaning of the word strange? Please include the latin root and more importanty the context of how it is properly used as a adjective, adverb, and noun. I prefer a the definition to be rich in detail, while remaining still succinct and avoiding verbose tangents. TIA! |
