| Safeway is worse and they got rid of self checkout |
| Just used self checkout at my Safeway yesterday. That said I am usually a Giant shopper and felt Safeway was more expensive for the things I buy... |
| Safeway is the least expensive grocery store where I live (love it!); after that, I go to Harris Teeter or Wegman's. |
|
So, I bought turkey deli slices from a package yesterday. Wasn't the cheap brand, it was about $5. Got home, open it, then looked in the back, and it said to sell by Nov 16! what the f--! That's more than 5 days passed!
I'm considering writing a complaint to their headquarter with all the problems I've had with Giant. and they were from different locations too! |
| The "City Market" Giant is absolutely the worst grocery store I have ever in my life patronized. Maybe 25 percent of the staff are decent. The rest are lazy and outright hostile. They're angry that they have to work to earn a living, like me and you and most everybody else. The security there is a joke. Stealing is rampant, though seems to have become marginally less common in recent weeks. Check out is an excruciating ordeal: You either wait endlessly for a surley human checker to s....l...o...w...l...y scan your groceries or you risk having a resentful self-checkout assistant heap vituperation on you when your scanning machine freezes up for no apparent reason. I absolutely hate the experience of shopping there -- start to finish, every time. It's just awful. So, why do I continue to do it? Because I don't have a car in DC and the store is within reasonable walking distance of where I live. I could buy a car if I really wanted one. But I am trying to save money to buy a house and cars are money sinks. I feel especially bad for the people who don't have any choice whatsoever. They're stuck. Giant has them by the b*lls. |
| Yeah, giants and Safeways suck. Their prices aren't even all that low, their selection quality is low, and just overall crappy experience. They're all stuck in the year 2003. |
Have you tried the Oakton Giant? |
| Giant has always been trashy. |
| I prefer Giant to Safeway. I cannot even fathom the perception that Giant is “trashy.” That’s laughable. Safeway has a better frozen selection but Giant has better produce. Maybe it varies by community but the two in my vicinity are just fine. |

I shop at Trader Joe’s and Lidl most of the time now. Giant’s stores don’t feel clean and spacious to me even though Trader Joe’s is actually smaller.
Just drive further to another store and stock up. |
| I like Giant but HT opened up near me and I mostly go there now. Went back to Giant because I was running errands and on a Sunday afternoon they only had one check out lane operating and everyone else had to use self checkout and self checkout was driving me crazy because it kept thinking I hadn’t put things in the bagging area or whatever. You need to go so slowly to avoid tripping the system. |
| PP who bumped this thread--that was a good reason. I'm so sorry for your frustration and can just imagine you angry typing and finding this! Can you get delivery from some other supermarket? I'm with you and I really hate "customer service" people who are surly and rude. I would like to see them all canned. |
Um, PP is trying to save $$ and you recommend delivery? Prepared by similarly hostile and inept staff, so substandard and marked up? Let them eat cake, indeed. |
| I hate the new Giant on Westbard. Cramped and crowded compared to he old one. And I hate parking in a garage. I understand why they replaced the old one with this, but I don’t enjoy shopping there. |
| Every time I go in to giant regardless of the time of day there are no baskets left. I have to go find one in the self checkout lane before I shop while the employee is scrolling their phone while the rest of us do the work. I suggested to the manager that they order more and was told “yeah they just go quick, as soon as we put them down.” Um - so ORDER MORE! |
