My closest grocery store is Giant food. I normally try not to shop there but every once in a while I have to run in for something quick. I think the prices are really high and they have very few cashiers. I can't stand checking out at the self check out.
I also hate the fact they're always asking for a donation. Today they asked me if I wanted to donate a pie to a shelter. What a gimmick they are running. They act like they donate to local shelters but there really passing off the money onto the consumers and then getting a huge tax break. I give need a lot of money to different charities and I don't want to be haggled about giving a pie to a shelter. Enough already. |

Just say no thank you. I turn those charities down all the time.
Where I live, Giant is the least expensive compared to Safeway and Harris Teeter. |
|
Just say no. The cashier doesn't care, she/he just has to ask you the question.
Calm down. Yeesh. |

I agree, OP. This season is building up more and more. Giant also has awful produce, which doesn't help. In fact, I haven't really found a good place with decent produce - except maybe the HMart type places, and who has time for that? |

| I also hate Giant. Doesn't matter which Giant. But, for different reasons, stores are cramped and organized in a weird way, everything is expensive and they don't have anything I like, not even the right cuts of meat. Last time I went there it was for a crab truck and of course I didn't' end up buying it since they closed early while right next to it Safeway is still having a crab truck selling. I shop at HT, even though it is maybe even more expensive and I go to Wegmans which is a bit further, when I have time. Just don't go there, I don't. I would rather drive much further than step a foot in any Giant. |
| Yes, I also don't like the cramped layout and bad customer service. |
| Giant is extremely ghetto. |
| The thing that I looooove about giant is the scanner you carry with you through the store, then use to self check out. That thing has cut my shopping time in half, at least. |
| I like the Giant at Cathedral Commons. I like it better than the Georgetown Safeway, actually. |
| Yea I'm starting to hate Giant too. I rarely go anymore. Love Safeway and Wegmans |
|
Which Giant? I've given the Safeway on Sangamore Road in Bethesda a chance a few times, but it's always been worse than the nearby Giant. The produce is in bad shape, and they simply don't have items like organic strawberries.
Then the check-outs are usually understaffed AND they don't have any self-check-outs at all. Actually the CVS in that mall doesn't have them either -- was it some kind of requirement by the landlord? |
Woah never heard of this. Where do you pick it up? Maybe it's not in my giant yet. |
| Giant was closest and easiest for me, so I ended up shopping there a lot. Then Harris Teeter opened down the road and I tried that out. The produce was so much fresher, the cashiers smiled and were helpful, sale prices were better. Amazing. I'll never go back to Giant! Whenever I pass their parking lot it's half empty now, so I guess I wasn't alone in making the switch. |
The one on King St. in Alexandria has those. |
