Sisters die in Seychelles -odd story

Very unlikely that they would both suffer from a SCUBA related problem. It's pretty rare (I'm a diver with over 250 dives).

They might have been intoxicated from drinking all day, but that may end up being relatively unrelated. Awful.

Just about any possibility put forth would be very unlikely (that's why it's a mystery so far), but one of those explanations is true.

Would they even mention prescription drugs in the room if they weren't narcotics? I can't see why they'd say anything about it if the drugs were for cholesterol or diabetes or something.

Mine too but to happen simultaneously in two people seems unlikely.

My bet? Hotel staff or people they bought alcohol from tried to cut the good stuff with moonshine. If you don't make moonshine correctly it contains methanol, sometimes in fatal concentrations. Methanol poisoning leads straight to pulmonary and cerebral edema. They are being super quiet and mum on this because if true, it would be terrible for the local tourism industry.

Pulmonary edema. What can cause it? Scuba? Moonshine?

An overdose from opiates causes edema. Taking drugs in an unfamiliar place can also cause overdose.

This doesn't make sense.

I think this is very unlikely. Poor people in Seychelles make toddy, but there are no illegal distilleries/moonshine. My bet is drugs (which are unfortunately prevalent) or accidental poisoning from insecticide.

US drug deaths are highest for middle-aged whites.

White privilege.

eh...I wouldn't hang my doubts on that PP. Just about every story you hear where a mysterious death occurs they almost always add that information in there. Many of us have some type of prescription medication with us when traveling - could be something as benign as antibiotics, or even medication related to protecting their health due to the places they were traveling to. At the time of their death they had already been in Africa a whole month.

Plus if you read about their love for foreign travel, and one of the sisters being a competitive skater etc., strong odds are that they were not using narcotics.

My first thoughts were: 1) someone laced their drinks 2) scuba diving

Maybe it's because some are being killed by police?
