I think the explanation there (in my head) is that it was a bad batch, or on purpose.

In the article I read online, (daily caller) resort staff had to assist the two women back to their room the night before, around 8 pm.

Alcohol poisoning? Roof-ied? Both?

My first thought was dry drowning. Or in adults, secondary drowning. It happens. I guess the toxicology report will say more.

I've read stories of people in Southeast Asia who died after drinking homemade (poorly made, poisonous) liquor subbed into old bottles of top-shelf liquor. When I read this story and saw that they'd been drinking heavily, this was the first theory that came to mind.

This was my first thought too, with the drinking and staff helping them to their rooms before being found dead.

They were staying in a luxury resort. I don't think they were drinking poisonous hooch.

Batches that are stronger than usual, or have the wrong kind of impurities frequently cause a rash of overdoses in a town. Them both overdosing is not unbelievable.

Some viruses, like dengue, hantavirus and some flu strains can cause it too. MERS and SARS are from coronaviruses.

This.
He helped them both to their room, then checked on them and again in the am. Something fishy. They were drugged.

I doubt it. The news reports said they had a lot of money and frequently took luxury vacations together.

Assuming they were drunk at all .... hypoxia can make someone appear drunk.

I would guess drugs, though. Dry drowning seems odd for both of them. As does insecticide - how did their lungs and brains end up like that?

What is dry or secondary drowning in adults?

This is like it was made for "Dateline" and "48 Hours". This story is definately a future episode.

Google it. It's not what happened here. Would be extremely unlikely to happen in two people.

Whoa, there have been multiple cases of mysterious tourist deaths that actually did end up to be due to insecticide poisoning. Shocking and makes me grateful to live in the US where these things are closely regulated. One case was of Canadian sisters in Thailand. The cause? Bed bug spray.
