Texting in carpool WWYD?

Driving home from work yesterday i'm setting in a left hand turn lane behind a woman texting and a young girl driving in the next lane is also texting. The left turn arrow goes green and the woman just sits there staring at her phone. I honk, knowing that no one behind me will make the light because of this idiot. When I honk the young girl in the adjacent lane pulls out without ever looking up and almost collides with cross traffic.

Yea, no problem with texting at stop lights. It's still illegal.

Are you my long lost identical twin? I see the same thing all the time, 5,6 people around me texting at red lights. Never seeing it is now a green light, smashing into cars in front of them because some other lane started moving. Yesterday a guy in an SUV behind me was tailing me and then going way behind, yes, I look in the mirror and his head is down the whole time, texting very clearly the whole time, on I-95. I honked and he looked and then I raised my hands as in "what the heck," did he care? No, continued to text and drive and who cares if he kills me, himself, a child or 100 people on that highway. It should be a jail sentence, texting and driving.

You don't want to look like jerks by leaving the car pool? Do you care more about your child's safety, or do you care more about what this woman thinks about you? Texting and driving is illegal, it is stupid, and your child's life should be more important than whether or not this woman thinks you are a jerk. Do you get your feelings hurt that easily? Texting and driving? Yes, no doubt.

Texting while fully stopped and aware of your surroundings? Not really. I occasionally will send a quick text at a light but I not fully engrossed in my phone. I monitor the countdown for the light to change. And it's a quick, time-sensitive text (I have "bti" automatically change to "be there in" and I add "5m"), not reading an article or anything. I often honk at the jokers in front of me to get going.

That said, I wouldn't want my teen to do it nor 95% of the adult idiots of this world.

It's setting a bad example. That's enough of a reason for it to be very wrong - and end the carpool.

Now, people doing the wrong thing but being, otherwise careful WITHOUT a teen watching is bad but not nearly as bad or uncommon

Not OP, but you have serious anger issues. You should see somebody, lashing out at others is a sign of insecurity and depression.
