No one except the DCI founders would truly know the answer to this, but there is a sense that if a mutli-LEA feeder was going to be approved it needed to include all dual language schools at the time (Sela didn't quite exist yet).

Setting up barriers to entry -- such as preference for feeder school students over anyone who wants to come at 6th grade -- was a political hurdle for the founders to get past with DCPCSB. And perhaps one that probably would have been insurmountable had just one dual language school been included.

With a few exceptions, aren't all public and charter schools a question mark at the higher grades? I think the appropriate metric is whether ITS seems poised to outperform the base case 5 years from now or underperform.

ITS ends at 8th grade, so that's indeed a bit of a dead end. I think most families weigh their options when 4th/5th comes along.

As a parent of an ITS child, we picked the school in part because it goes through 8th grade and liked the idea of continuity from ECE thru middle school. I hope not everyone plans to bail in the middle school years when transitions are difficult. Does anyone know how many of the middle schoolers, or upper school students, started before 5th/6th grade? Is it an entirely separate group?

Majority of current 5th-8th graders started before middle school. Yes, some leave for Basis, Latin, Deal (I think one to DCI), but more than half stay. The middle school is shaping out pretty nicely. Amazing principal and teachers. We are IB for Deal and staying for now.

We are just in PK3 but no plans to bail. We were really drawn to the path through 8th.

My youngest is at ITS, but we are also inbound for Deal. If a smaller middle school will work better for my kids, we absolutely will stay through 8th!

We are in 4th and IB for Deal. We plan to stay for middle. We're fortunate to have options.
