Stop being a judgemental a-hole. Despite her circumstances resulting from some unfortunate choices, that mom got her kids to school every day by bus and purchased decent quality food for her kids, including fresh fruit and yogurt. Why don't you try feeding your kids what DC serves to families at homeless shelters? You don't get much nutritional value from hot dogs and pasta. So, unless you're prepared to go volunteer at DC General or a school serving a large homeless population try to STFU. |
Do you see the irony? Many WM workers are paid do poorly that they qualify for public assistance so that you can save a quarter on some Chinese-made crap. And how many gallons of gas do you burn getting there in your Range Rover? |
Another "nice" non-judgmental liberal! My point was we are wasting taxpayer money providing free shelter meals, free school meals, moeny to buy groceries, AND money to eat out - ALL at the same time to the same person. And you're calling me an a-hole and to STFU? And I'm the judgmental one? We have a $20 trillion debt and cannot afford to waste taxpayer money like that. Maybe a little fiscal responsibility is in order. |
What's ebt and how would you even know she had it? |
It stands for electronic benefits transfer - and it's in the form of a card. I believe this is how food stamps are delivered, partially because it is more efficient and partially so those on public assistance aren't embarrassed in public. (Other cash benefits are delivered through the EBT card, as well.) |
Well EBT is cheap and somewhat healthier than fast food places. At least she is using it for food. |
Cut the deficit on the backs of the poorest and most vulnerable. The GOP has worn out that playbook since the Reagan years. No need to raise taxes to pay for frivolous wars or weapons programs we don't need and the military doesn't want. Just get rid of school lunches and programs like SNAP and TANF and then complain about urban poverty and poor educational outcomes. So, yes, you're a dime-a-dozen blowhard conservative a-hole. |
Also so that banks can charge fees on them. |

I am not racist the person was white |
I meant to say that Golden Corral is cheap... |
I've been through hard economic times, where I didn't take public aid. I didn't have an iPhone or eat out. I lived on boxes of pasta, day old bread, and tomato sauce. There was no protein because meat was too exoensive. I ended up in the emergency room on thanksgiving, where they did give me a food basket. That's what you do when you have hard times. You save your pennies, and don't cry "I deserve xxxxxxxx." You don't spend every last dime on Air Jordans or iPhones because that's one of the things which perpetuates poverty, this type of entitled consumerism. |
This! |
Do child support payments go on an EBT card? Like if a couple has a child or children and then they divorce and the judge orders a parent to pay child support, does the state issue an EBT card and the child support payment goes on the EBT card? If so, that could be why the lady had the card op.
But yeah op, it does get annoying when people seem to not care about being on public assistance, but the system is rigged to make it nearly impossible to get off of it. The best thing would be if the public assistance programs were overhauled so that they were actually providing adequate support that made it where people could get ahead and then not need it anymore. The way it is now, if you have a change in your income, you must report it and then they adjust your benefits. So if you are working and you get more hours or a raise, they take back some of your aid, so it's impossible to save money that you earn. There really isn't a perfect system that will work for everyone though, is there? I try not to judge people. And that includes I don't judge op or the people calling op names (hypocrites much?). |
OP, I'm going to assume you want to be a good person, right? Most people do. I mean, I realize you're not off to a good start, but... One thing to reflect on is this: “The only time you look in your neighbor's bowl is to make sure that they have enough. You don't look in your neighbor's bowl to see if you have as much as them.” -- Louis C.K. |
