Maryland Kids Attending DC Schools

So is that the concern? Or do DCPS parents also think MD kids aged 5-18 are sneaking into DCPS? And if so, why? I can see a federal employee parent wanting to get out of paying for preschool (it's wrong, of course. But I believe it happens). But once kindergarten starts, what is the rationale believing that any MCPS parents aren't just using MD schools?

Also, where are the VA Parents (FCPS/APS/ACPS) while this is going on? Why do DCPS parents think MD parents are residence cheats, but not VA parents?

Thanks! Now back to your regularly scheduled sniping...

By and large the people lying about their residence live in Prince George's County, not Montgomery County.

Most are black, and many of these families have one family member that still lives in DC, so they use the 'ancestral home' as their address to register for school.

And you know this how? Are you basing this on your preconceived biases? The kid kicked out of my kid's charter lived in MOCO, and the he was not Black. Free PK3-4, is free whether you live in Hyattsville, Silver Spring, Rockville, Bowie, Springfield, or Alexandria, especially if you're driving into the city for work.

There's no free aftercare in most charters. Which DCPS schools are free? Langdon EC charged. I remember paying before DC was accepted into his charter school, and we paid $460 monthly. I admit it was much less at Langdon.

The so-called HRCs don't have free before/after are but others do (KIPP, Breakthrough and several others).

AND Kipp has free Saturday school.

For every MD resident using a charter school spot in DC is one kid in DC deprived of the spot.

MD cheaters hurt Ward 7 and 8 the worst.

FCPS poster- why are you on this thread since it doesn't concern you at all? Why ask about a DC issue, known to DC parents? Go away and get a life.

Well, this showed up on recent topics. I clicked a link. I read the posts. You know, like everyone else on DCUM. I found the assumption that MD parents cheat, but no mention of VA interesting. This is a legitimate, non-trolley, non-snarky question. Why would MCPS parents do this and not FCPS? If I was going to residency cheat, I would just do it within FCPS. Why is MCPS not the same? And why don't poor kids in MCPS just use their own head start?

The PGCS answer makes sense. I hadn't considered that.

I have as much right to participate as you do. So STFU.

Oh please. I dip into the VA and MD threads all the time. I do it to compare the angst of what's happening in my child's DCPCS. I also dip into the private school threads. You PP are ridiculous. I'm sure more than enough posters on DCUM look and post in other threads.

A DC resident who has a strong belief that you don't give a damn about the kid's in Wards 7 & 8. So just stop the whinny, patronizing, insincere, trite verbiage.

I think this investigation has potential. I would take it more seriously if it weren't coming from the Daily Caller and so race-baiting.
Anonymous
Also VA is closest to downtown NW DC. Lots of charters in wards 5, 6, 7, and 8 pretty close to the PG county line.
Anonymous
Because the schools bordering DC in VA are for the most part excellent. The schools bordering DC on the PG County side suck.

HaHa! Totally agree. Go away FCPS poster. FCPS sucks and I'd sooner die than live in that dump. Get a life.
