Wait so shelters near suburban schools is bad but it is ok to have them near urban schools. Make up your mind. Is it that you don't think shelters should be near schools or it is that you don't think they should be near your schools in your suburb. |
Maybe the third, but it's not that close to the first two public schools. Parklawn is at the other end of Lincolnia Road and Belvedere is almost in Annandale. |
| The shelter that is being moved is currently closer to Bailey's ES than the relocated one would be to Belvedere and the same distance to Parklawn. |
It's in Courthouse which is less popular for buyers and renters than Clarendon. The shelter has ruined the Reston library. Where people used to park outdoors is now becoming apt's. |
.6 miles to Mary Queen of Apostles |
To an outsider from the west coast with a spouse from Europe, VA has a reputation of being a "gun loving backward state". These types of incidences just fuel that stereotype. I'm sure there are some lovely people in VA, though. |
"Less popular" still means rents and housing prices higher than where you live. Clarendon has an affordable housing development. Virginia square has a soup kitchen. No one is fearing for their lives there. |
Yes, everyone expects danger on the mean streets of Clarendon.

You don't want the poor or homeless near a church? Fine, tear the church down. Maybe the poor and homeless don't want to be .6 miles from an institution associated with a bunch of pedophiles. |
| I think homeless shelters should be placed exactly where regular Americans live because they will quickly pay attention to this growing problem and examine and try to resolve the causes. One of the biggest causes is the propesity in this country to issue felonies like they are popsicles and then to refuse employment to these felons once they have served their time. Many of them end up either going back to jail or lving on the streets because they literally can't afford a home. Good for them. Build away! |
Your conservative policies are partly to blame for the rampant homeless problem. Your so-called war on crime has created a HUGE problem with thousands upon thousands of Americans unable to find work because of a felony conviction and large percentage end up back in jail or on the streets. I vote conservative but I am definitely for reforming our criminal justice system and will vote for a Democrat if they show a true devotion to this cause. |
The shelter in Arlington is at a busy location right next to a police station. FFX already said they will not commit a police officer to the area. To boot, a police captain came out to the meeting at the hearing and said "yeah, crime is going to go up." It did around the current shelter. To boot, this is an area that is highly resdenitial where everyone is at work during the day. Most burglaries happen during the day. They'll be kicking this people out of the shelter at 930 in the morning and they have no where to go. They'll be loitering around resdenitial areas and schools. I the current shelter they sit outside and panhandle. I think they should out it next to the FFX police station down the road. It Has plenty of space |
And it's next to a senior citizens home. They'll be undefended. Let's be honest, a good population of homeless are addicts. It's funny the Arlington people are saying it's okay, the original proposal was to put in Ina building on the Arlington/Fairfax border and Arlington residence were the ones who came out in full force to protest against the location |
Nice try, MD and DC have more homeless than VA |
Sweet, where's your address? I will offer that as a counter location for the new site. Surely you won't mind |
