I know at least one 9U boy was added "off the waitlist" this past season. No idea how common that is or how deep they're willing to go.

I know of 3 kids that got on that way as well.

Contact DCYFC. They are looking to add a few girl to their u10. It's a really good team.

Do you have something better for your son, or was he just trying out to see if he could? Also, did he have soccer experience beyond rec from before, or was this the first time at that higher level?

Does he have foot skills? Does he control the ball well? Does he know how to pass? Move when he doesn't have the ball?
Does he play at a high speed?

I think the default is to keep most of last year's players...

She is quick, passes well, moves well without the ball, but needs better ball control. We're working on this.

Ah, yes...this was mentioned at tryouts. They said all of the girls came back for tryouts. Her teammate from rec made the red team, so she was devastated that she didn't make it at all.

First touch is a big thing at Stoddert. Also it's not a kick the hall real hard kind of game.
Have her do clinics - the Washington Spirit has some good ones. Summer camps? Or have her tryout for a different team and try again another season.

And is your DD on the small side by any chance? What age group is this? Like it was said previously they take the big girls first...

I haven't found this to be the case at all.... some of the blue (top) team girls were taken when they were among the smallest kids and several new additions have been small as well.

Thanks for your great advice! She did First Touch winter clinic with DCYF and has done various summer soccer camps, but I think we don't play enough soccer in the yard on a day to day basis to increase her ball control. We will take your advice and look for more clinics. However, we are still waiting I see if she gets onto a PPA team. Wish her luck!

Can someone tell me whether it's possible for a player to move up from, say, a red team to a blue team, or from a white team to a red team, during the season? Is this something that the coaches regularly contemplate? Or is it that once a player accepts a spot on a team, that's where he stays for the season? Thanks!
