How far do you let your 1st to 3rd grader walk w/o adult to a friend's house?

My daughter is 6 and is in 1st grade. We let her out alone or with friends to play in the backyard. Sometimes I am on the screen in porch but mainly I just crack a window or peek thru one here or there.

Front yard no supervision. She can also go to and from friend's homes on our side of the street. She usually scooters. I still want her asking me to go across the street to play. I like to just be there when she is crossing just to be sure she is doing it right but by this summer we will be letting her go across on her own. We are in a suburban neighborhood towards the back so not a lot of traffic.

I should add that they organize some pretty amazing games of tag and hide and go seek even at night and parents will hand them all walkie talkies and a flashlight and gather in someone's yard to chat and have cocktails. Not quite the free range childhood I had growing up in the 80's but I think they will remember being able to roam pretty freely.

Where is your neighborhood? I must move there!
