Nothing in today's mail. So I guess that answers whether the letter get mailed or are received on the 25th.

I called St. John's today and was informed that they are being mailed out today. the wait is also killing me. I am not going to work tomorrow. I am so stressed out. If DC does not get in, we will have to move to upper NW for Wilson or move to Maryland.

Does anyone know if the same 'skinny, fat' envelope rule applies for these schools as for college?

No - not necessarily.

Exactly... well put PP.

It's not just this forum, PP. it's fairly universally acknowledged that Catholic schools are often the weakest schools academically as well as the cheapest form of "private" school out there. Seriously, I didn't grow up anywhere near here, not even in the midatlantic. I have always, always heard adults disparage Catholic schools. And my mom is Catholic.

Seriously, you don't know what you are talking about, nor does your mom.

This may be the perception, but it certainly is not accurate based on my experience. I have had kids attend MoCo public schools (Some of the most desirable ones) and kids attend Catholic schools. At the elementary/MS level, I would say the schools are fairly comparable academically, with an edge to public schools on math, largely due to ability to differentiate more due to numbers. At the high school level, the Catholic high school is at least as rigorous, and definitely more demanding in terms of homework, than the public high school. FWIW, my kids have attended Ivy/very selective SLACs from Catholic high school.

Thank you for that perspective. Means a lot coming from a parent who has BTDT.

PP, if your kids have attended college, I'm inferring that your experience with MCPS is pre-Curriculum 2.0, possibly pre NCLB, and pre-development population explosion. Even "the best" MCPS schools are not what they once were. I was at an event at my child's MCPS school yesterday and was very disappointed by what I saw.

I think it does apply. Of course, we only got acceptances, but the envelopes were large with lots of materials. I would imagine if you were getting bad news, they would not send it with a course catalog and other forms and materials. Probably a number 10 envelope.

I'm the PP who has had kids in both. I still have one child in ES and one who finished MS last year, so my experience is current. Of course, my experience is just that -mine - and, of course, is impacted by the particular schools and teachers. I did not notice any significant differences in the quality of education from my oldest to my youngest, and my children are fairly similarly situated in terms of academic ability. My point was that Catholic schools are not, in my experience, generally weaker academically than public schools. iIndependent Catholic high schools, in particular, can be academically rigorous and prepare a student very well for even the top level colleges and universities.
