Ski resort clothes and shoes

1. Base layer: Leggings and Turtleneck (either Nike Heat Gear or Under Armour)
2. 1 pair of Ski/Snowboard socks (Acrylic or Wool)
3. Mid layer top (Mid weight zip neck top)
4. Ski Jacket
5. Ski Pants (Burton makes my favorite ladies pants, check Amazon)
6. Helment & goggles (No matter what! Don't need ti for tubing)
7. Good gloves (Some snowboarders like gloves with wrist guards built in...more expensive though)
8. Face Mask (http://www.buckmans.com/men/accessories/face-masks/slamdanna-facemasks-15962-o4i_15962.aspx)
9. Handwarmers (I put one in each glove and they last for hours. If they get too hot put them in your pocket for later use.)

I also would also recommend taking a knit cap for wear when you are not skiing / boarding. I am also the poster who said I typically wear trail running shoes around the resort.

I don't know where you are going to ski, however, if it is a big resort it may be beneficial to have a small backpack. I skied at Whistler several years ago and wore a small backpack everywhere. In it I carried water, some snacks, tissues, extra hand warmers). It was a lifesaver out there on a big mountain like that.

Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/Dakine-6-8210060-Avery-Parent-Womens-Backpack/dp/B00HZ00Q66/ref=pd_sim_468_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=51090wGA2yL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0FPH2B1MJ1JEYPAHVV1V

Also, beginning boarding is brutal on the tailbone. Some people wear "butt pads". This is optional however, I'm just throwing it out there for reference.

No OP. Thanks for this list. My DD is going skiing for the first time this weekend and this list really helped me. Thanks!

Have a great trip!

Thanks to the PP who posted the list! Are the hand warmers really necessary or will the gloves do?

Other than that I believe I now have all the items I need ordered or purchased.

It depends how cold it is. If you are skiing locally and it's 35-40 degrees then no hand warmers are required. If you are in Canada and it's below 0 then you might want them. They sell them at the ski shops at the base and usually even in the cafeteria so no need to purchase them in advance - just wait to see what the weather is.

Op here.

I have purchased my base layer pants and top. When I get dressed for the slopes, do I need another sweatshirt or anything on top of the base layers like a mid layer before I put on my big ski jacket?

It really depends on the weather that day Is your jacket insulated or is it just a shell?

Buy the handwarmers and put them in your pocket unopened, because they will charge you something ridiculous like $6 a pair on the mountain.

Depends on the weather, your ski jacket, and your body temp. My DS and DH generally just wear just a base layer top. I wear a sweater or another layer on top of my base layer and vary the two layers depending on the weather. My jacket is a Kjus and is quite warm so I don't need too much.

It sounds like you are going to look like a giant snowball with all the clothes you are talking about. You need to resist the temptation to add lots of bulky layers. Skiing is an active sport and you need to be able to move, plus you don't want to be sweating all day. You don't want bulky jackets, heavy sweatshirts, multiple pairs of pants, etc. Dress for the weather, which can be variable.

I wear - smart wool long johns, ski pants, thin quarter zip smart wool base layer, second layer that might be another quarter zip or maybe a thin fleece, ski jacket, ski socks and gloves, plus helmet and goggles. Gaiter if is cold enough (maybe 1/2 the time). I have skied in weather from -20 to 60 degrees so will add or subtract clothes depending on weather. If it's warm I drop the base layers, and/or wear a lighter jacket. If it's cold I add a cashmere turtleneck.

OP here.

I went to REI and they helped me figure out what I needed. I bought some stuff there and then I went to Costco for cheaper pricing on things like the gloves and Paradox base layers pant and 1/4 zip top. I think I'm set now and hopefully not set like a marshmallow in my 5'6, 115 lbs frame.

OP again.

Thanks to all who helped. I'm so excited about this trip now that I finally have what I need to be adequately prepared for weather and resort.

And good luck to the mother with the daughter who is going on her weekend ski trip! Hope she has a lot of fun.

Depends on the weather, but good to have just in case. I normally pick them up at Target (in the $1.00 bins when you walk in the door).

OP, we're in PA right now, but headed to Vail for the actual trip on Tuesday morning. Did some snowtubing yesterday and it was amazingly fun.
