PK4 - what do you think of this list?

In your shoes and if commute is a priority, I'd move Peabody to the #5 slot and shift the other schools down. If there is a particular reason that you don't want to attend Peabody, that would be helpful to know.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I would definitely prefer Peabody over L-T. I'd move Peabody up, for sure.

WTF does that even mean. First off, there is no cost to having those schools on her list since she has fewer than 12 schools. Second, even if you overlook that point, the "wait for K" makes ZERO logical sense. They are filling up with IB kids for PK3/4 to the point that they are not accepting IB kids with sibs, and then in K all those IB kids have a right to attend. How does your advice make any sense?

Hey OP, get i=our your huge grain of salt and BS detector.

What's up with the bitchiness? Brent admitted several OOB kids for K this year in spite of the fact that there were a large number of now 5YO IB kids shut out of PK three years ago. There are fewer IB rising K'ers shut out two years ago and I wouldn't be surprised if the school opened a few spots for K again next year. We will have to see what happens in two year's time. I'm not going to debate the wisdom of any of this other than to note that class sizes seem unnecessarily large this year.

Please go on a tour of Capitol Hill Montessori- it's a disaster. I've never met a parent who was truly happy. My friend is a special needs tutor who frequently works at CHML. She told me to run away far and fast. Mundo Verde is not a neighborhood school by any stretch, although I am guessing that you could take the Union Station Metro. If you're going that far i would consider other DCI feeders for a long term goal. What about Two Rivers Young? Too far?

Huh???!!! Please people, if you have no idea what you are talking about then just say nothing. I don't have a horse in this race but I cannot abide ignorance masquerading as wisdom. First of all, MV isn't close to a Metro. But the closes Metro stop isn't Union Station, it's NOMA.

You could GET ON AT UNION STATION which is on the hill. And you're right, you can then get off at NOMA and walk to MV which is actually close to the metro. Geez, why do you feel the need to scream at people online?

Do any MV parents currently use Metro or Metrobus to drop off/pick-up? Experiences?

Didn't prioritize the school last precisely because of the walk from NOMA Metro. There is no good place to cross NY Ave and Florida Ave. Actually might be better off crossing North Cap to the South, except for the constant muggings and violence in the NW neighborhoods just off North Cap and South of P (where MV is located).

How many blocks is MV to closest metro?

The closest metro is NoMA-Gallaudet and it is 0.5 miles away. However as PPs pointed out crossing N Capitol and/or New York Ave to get there can be a challenge.

I would take off the charters. They talk a good game but they don't hire real teachers and behavior mgmt is abysmal. I observed a class at Munde Verde and thought I was at a bottom 40 school.

Lumping all charters is not the best advise.

My first thought was, "troll!" But then I realized that you are just a true believer. Please keep it up. People like you make it impossible for others with legitimate concerns to be taken seriously. And that just makes it easier for Charters to continue to dominate your ever-failing public schools. But hey, you protected the salaries of the union, so that's something, right?

Sure. Tell that to the charters, that group for group, outperform the best (richest and whitest) schools in the city. Go away troll!

By what measure? I think this is wishful thinking.

There is a charter that outperformed Janney and Mann?

Upper middle class kids perform about the same regardless of school. I went to DCPS in the eighties and nineties, had shit teachers, and somehow managed to attend an ivy and receive an advanced degree. Just because a certain population of kids does well doesn't mean the school is responsible.
