Where would you take kids to see castles?

We just did it ourselves. Have to admit that some of the driving in the highlands was a little hairy but you can either take it slow, or do a bunch by train. If you want a tour you might look at Rabbies (haven't tried them but heard good things and we noticed their small vans a few places)

+1 on Wales.

We were there for a week this summer and toured around the south/central part in a rental car. There are a ton of castles, but our favorites were Caerphilly (they have an excellent scavenger hunt-type activity for kids) and Carreg Cennen (very remote, crumbling and surrounded by sheep). Links for both:

We also visited Pembroke Castle, Larne Castle and Castle Coch, which were cool, but not our favorites. My husband went to see Cardiff Castle after we left, and he said that one was pretty good too. But seriously, the first two I mentioned were phenomenal.

I'm pretty sure Wales has the most castles per capita of any other country.

PP again. I should say: My kids are 5 and 8 and they loved these places. At first they thought they liked the fancy (i.e. not crumbly castle) best, but then they realized that they could climb on many of the crumbly ones (like Carreg Cennen), so it was a toss-up which ones they like best. If you wind up in the UK, Longleat Safari Park, which is in England, but rather close to Cardiff, Wales, was a crown pleaser too.
