Was I wrong to let DS to spend three weeks in Europe with his girlfriend?

The movie Eurotrip comes to mind. Anybody seen that?

Every American should spend a gap year overseas. Traveling anywhere. Working, volunteering. The USA would be light years ahead socially, morally and technologically if kids had this experience.

<--Also a European...

I hope my kids choose a gap year. I totally agree with you!

So? He's going off to college and will be more alone there. Raise your kids right and send them off.

I rather him touring Europe and having sex with one girl than home with his idiot friends boinking anything with a hole.

Jeez. "A piece of ass" "Anything with a hole." Is this really how we talk about women now?

Maybe this has been said in these 5 pages, I don't know.

I think that traveling with a romantic partner and romantic partner's family is actually great life skills preparation. Sure, they are still kids, but it sounds like he learned some pretty important skills on this trip:

- budgeting time and money for vacation
- planning things himself
- interacting with "in laws"

Those are things that will be good for him as an adult, and also good for his future romantic partners, whether this relationship lasts or not.

Kudos to you!!

It's too late now to change it so I think you just have to own it. FWIW - I think I would let my DS do what you describe at that age (he's much younger right now).
