do you buy a bra when there is are no boobs to buy for?

I will buy sports bras for use during sports, running/horsing around after school and gym class. Normal bras are for all other times.

However, bras are for girls who are developing, they are not a requirement for a girl who isn't developing yet, and I refuse to allow any child of mine to buy into society's dictates for clothing.

Bras are to cover your private parts in gym class. Undeveloped breasts are still private. Your daughters will hate you if you don't mellow.

I agree with the posters who said sometimes it can seem like their breasts develop overnight. I also think it is worth getting her used to wearing one and trying the different styles and getting comfortable with them – my 13 year old can be pretty picky about what she feels comfortable wearing these days, and it definitely took some trial and error. Finally, even if there isn't much there, my daughter would be the first to tell you that they keep the rooms freezing cold in the schools during warmer weather and she was sick to death of having her nipples poking through her clothes all the time!

These days ? I'm 47, and my mom bought my first bra when I was in the 5th grade and wore a AA. Girls want and need bras. It's a part of growing up. Did you not read Are You There God, It's Me Margaret?

Apparently you grew up under a rock and didn't go to middle school. My mom could have been the op. Made it very embarrassing to discuss. I was th LAST girl in my town to get a bra. Gym class was awful.

Or maybe your experience wasn't universal. Sheesh, either I agree with you or I grew up under a rock and didn't go to middle school??

Pretty much.

Op here! Thanks for the Justice referral...we stopped today and got a few. I am not against her wearing a bra, I just don't think I realized how much more preferred a traditional bra style was to her over her current sports bras. I also agree with the PP that one day she could come down the stairs and have boobs so might as well be prepared! They had 28 AAA BTW for those looking in that size range!

Good for you, OP! I'm sure you made your daughter very happy.

Advice about where I can get size 30 B bras? My daughter is 13, slim and curvy. The cups of the bras that fit her are too small.

You are completely contradicting yourself. What if your daughter wants to wear her sports bras all day? You are the one buying into "dictates for clothing".

That's what tank top or undershirt is for...

No, I buy bras based on the support, construction and the way the clothes feel over the bra, and that is exactly the way the girls have been taught. One is only a B, she chooses to not wear a bra unless she's running around in gym class (sports bra), and that's fine with me. The other chooses solid colors (normal bras) so that they won't be seen through her clothes, and has fun patterned sports bras for wearing by themselves when running, but again, she chooses to wear them, although she doesn't technically need the support when she's not running. Personally, I didn't wear a bra until I was a C, it wasn't necessary for support. That's my point. I don't see a reason for a girl who isn't developing yet to need a bra.

Actually, they're not. Bras are to provide support and make clothes drape. And breasts aren't sexual unless someone makes them sexual.

Well, there are a whole lot of kids in gym class.... As least one will make them sexual in an obnoxious way. If a girl wants her nips and the surrounding area, Daveloped or not, covered at school, then she should have that.

No harm came to anyone from wearing a bra when it wasn't "needed".

Adolescence sucks enough.

I grew up in a different society where young girls swimming topless are a norm. Never wanted a bra until I actually had something to put into it. Even then I try to get away without it whenever possible. I'm not too big just a b cup so it helps. This is just one more gender specific crutch this society puts on females. Little girls shouldn't be shamed into wearing this uncomfortable unnecessary piece of fabric around their flat chests. Unless boys are wearing them too.
