Definitely not a troll. I just can't believe parents tell their kids "sure, let's do it" when they don't need it. Come on now. |
| Try being in seventh grade and being the only girl in the locker room not wearing a bra (or needing one). It was extremely embarrassing for me. Coddling? Hardly... I wish my mom would have bought me a bra. I still cringe when I think about how I felt then. |
| You really think a bra on top of a flat chest would be better? I think that would open a child up to a lot more embarrassment. |
| She KNOWS she doesn't need a bra. Jeez. This is one if those harmless situations that buying this girl a few bras would go a long way. I can't believe how callous some people can be. |
| Yes, putting a bra over a flat chest is definitely less embarrassing than no bra! At least your nipples are covered. What is wrong with letting a 12 year old wear a bra? It isn't hurting anything and if it makes her feel better, why not? I was so grateful when my grandmother felt sorry for my embarrassment and bought me one. I could at least pretend to be normal! |
We're you ever an adolescent? |
Apparently you grew up under a rock and didn't go to middle school. My mom could have been the op. Made it very embarrassing to discuss. I was th LAST girl in my town to get a bra. Gym class was awful. |
Or maybe your experience wasn't universal. Sheesh, either I agree with you or I grew up under a rock and didn't go to middle school?? |
| My dd is 10 and we went bra shopping at Justice. She has no breast tissue either, but she is self aware and does not like her nipples to show through her shirt. She wore undershirts all winter and we switched to bras this spring when it got warmer. |
10yr old wearing a bra? Ridiculous |
First off, there is always someone to be the last at everything, right? There was also the first too. No biggie. Second, the OP's daughter is wearing sports bras already which is what every girl should be wearing PE days anyway. Again, no biggie. Third, it is not callous to say it isn't time for a bra yet. Sports bras are serving you well. Fourth, it looks really dumb when a girl wears a bra with nothing to fill it. I would think she would get more made fun of for that. |
| Where are people buying the sports bras? DD is a string bean at 11, but I have begun to think about nipple coverage... |
sporting good stores |

I have the opposite problem - DD 12.5 should be wearing one but finds them uncomfortable and never wants to. I *think* she associates them with being girly and she views herself as a tomboy, too.
I will not buy her a padded bra. Probably ever; if she wants one she'll need to be old enough to get a job and pay for it herself. However, just like being allowed to shave when she wanted to, she can wear a bra when she wants. |
You've got to be kidding me. This is a very young's girls breasts/lack thereof and buying a $15 bra to avoid social embarrassment. This isn't signing up for Space Camp or taking her to the One Direction concert. Do you honestly not see the difference? Can you really not empathize with the need to get the kid something she may not need, but desperately wants and should have in this particular situation, not every single situation? |
