The flip side may be annoying but you don't have to worry about them running out of money and coming to live with you. I also think it is nice to have parents that want to provide for you even when they are no longer around. |
This and nothing else! It will both shut them up if they do mean it in a snarky way and make them happy if they were just joking around because it shows them you don't expect anything from them and are happy they can now afford things they worked very hard for for a very long time! |
These comments could be their way of 1) making sure you guys aren't depending on an inheritance and/or 2) seeking validation from you. I'd acknowledge their comments and say something approving about their spending ("we want you to enjoy your money - you earned it!" etc.) to validate them. Try not to let their choice of words bother you. |
I would feel this way about anyone who speaks loud and long about their finances. It's crass and inappropriate when
other parties aren't asking. |
Any comment is annoying when repeated over and over and over again. I'd be annoyed too. My inlaws are the opposite. Just sitting on a giant pile of money and won't spend a dime. Yes, we'll get a lot when they die, but I'd rather they take their grandkids to the beach or something. |
^^^ Same in-law issue. Tighter than a drum. Never travel for fun. Take nearly no interest in grandchildren. Missed opportunity. I don't get it. |
The repetition gets worse when they get into their 70s and 80s. I have mastered the knowing nod. |
Boorish, even. |
