When I lived in California years ago, I always thought that the east coast had the fortune of so many great universities, but I now see that a number of my friends' children are eager to experience the great west coast universities. It is wonderful to hear of all these California admissions, but once your children get used to the good life out there (it takes a year or more to acclimate to the hot, arid, dusty climate and topography, before you can see and appreciate the true beauty of it), they may not come back!

Two of my siblings went to Oxy. Great school, beautiful campus!

It is a great school - and so many movies and TV shows have been shot on that campus that it seems oddly familiar the first time you visit. My step-daughter went to OXY for science and had amazing research opportunities. She went on to Harvard Medical School.

Looks like Columbia University for DS but the final decision has not been made.

Far away but truly a great choice for her.

That's where I went. Amazing place--magical on all levels!

DD (still just a junior) is looking at Claremont-McKenna. They are gorgeous campuses and all such great schools.

Gabrielle Giffords graduated from Scripps, didn't she?

DD in 7th grade hoping for Colby one day. DS in 9th grade has no idea. I don't think Georgetown is a bad idea for anyone even if parents live in dc.

Eagle Rock and Highland Park are really eclectic neighborhoods, a lot of indigenous L.A. culture to explore there.

It's one of the Claremont schools. People who know anything about higher education know about Scripps.

The Claremont Colleges are well-known to educated people, and carry their weight in networking gold out in California. Your student will receive an excellent education in one of the most beautiful west coast college settings.

Yes - these schools are HIGHLY regarded on the west coast!
Teh west coast hase FAR fewer top schools compared to the east coast, but the Claremont Schools are top out here.

Why not? I'm grad and that's what we've always called it - even down to T-shirts and the magazine.
