In this case, the mother was clearly pushing the relationship on her beautiful, screwed-up daughter. The mother is the one who ought to be banned for Stanford, and maybe the crackpot therapist too.

That's still creepy for a 31 yo man to be dating a 21 yo woman.

I dated someone who was 12 years older than me when I was starting my senior year at Stanford. It was a wonderful, emotionally and intellectually rewarding relationship, far better than any I'd had with undergrads I'd dated (some of whom I found desperately immature--I was always an old soul). We were together for three years and probably would be married now, were it not for the fact that he knew he didn't want kids and I was pretty sure I did. Leaving for grad school on the East Coast helped me get over him. We parted amicably.
If I had to do it again I'd bypass all the undergrads and date only older men to begin with.

Why can't men like that find women like you their own age?

He had dated women his own age before but was single when I met him.
He didn't "find" me. We met in a social setting. I'm fairly attractive (he thought very) so maybe he talked to me longer than he would have otherwise. And I found him absolutely charming and really interesting.
I knew what I was doing--you're not a kid at twenty-one.

She is beautiful. What a waste of all the years of hard work, good brain, good schooling ... Sometimes I think beauty works against women if they are not sure what they want. There are more opportunistic people surrounding them.

Joke aside, not OK for him to pursue her when she was that young. It is also very hard for women to be in technology. Guys either are either condescending, or hate you if you are really good and kick their ass. She probably thought she found a short cut.

That young? They were both in their 20s.

By young I mean power and life experience. He also dated another undergraduate after her. Seems a little predatory or opportunistic to me.

As opposed to the behavior of the older mom, which seems highly predatory and opportunistic?

You have to scroll to the second page where she writes a multi-page letter explaining why she is so troubled. The whole letter sounds crazy and made up. I am surprised that the NYT did this story at all, it seems to do a disservice to women who have suffered rape because it emphasizes a murky case of he said/she said.

OMG, this crazy bitch is exhausting.

Is this like the professional sports players wives and GFs? Except now it's the geeky tech guys wives and GFs. Like 'em young, hot, crazy and gold digging.

They can, but any man wants to invest in his future. Marry them younger than you. A decade is ideal. Do you want to be 45 and married to another 45yr old or a hot 35yr old? No brainer. It's evolution baby!

No, insanity works against women. She is insane. She'd be insane ever if she had a busted face.

I can't believe this guy didn't drop this thing after the first page and say, fuck it, I'm out of here.

She and her mother write in a very similar style (with the asterisks, for example). Puzzling. I wonder who is really writing them.

For every one or two sentences he emailed her, she wrote about four paragraphs.
