Yes, Sally is very old nickname for Sarah and like Nancy for Ann, has become its own stand alone name.

again let me say. there is not just 1 nickname for every name and neither does one name have claim to a nickname. Yes, Molly can be a nickname for Mary. Molly can also be a nickname for Margaret. It's not either or.
