Funny, my husband says this occasionally, and it drives me nuts.

I also hate when people say, "comprised of..."

Both are just so wrong.

So MANY people say that around here. I thought people were supposed to be well-educated in this bubble.

I hate "a disconnect" but that seems to be fading from fashion.

Do any of you take into account that this area is a melting pot, full of people from all over the country. In other parts of the country people use words differently, are exposed to variations in grammar and just speak differently. More often than not people like the head turning OP are picking on someone who has a regional variance in how they speak. We aren't the only people in the world.

Oh, this thread is hilarious. One of the reasons I keep coming back to DCUM...just for the pure entertainment value sometimes.
I agree with the posters who say that this is a parenting board - not a business plan. I know I type very quickly when responding to posts here and often make errors I hope I would never make (or would be much more careful not to make) at work or elsewhere.

That said - here's a question for the grammar experts on this board:
Is it acceptable to use "lastly" at the beginning of a sentence? For example, "Lastly, I went to the store to buy some milk." This always bothers me when I read it (I've seen it used often in business writing), but tons of people do it - so maybe it's correct? To me, it seems better just to use "last" or "finally":
"Last, I went to the store to buy some milk."
"Finally, I went to the store to buy some milk."

page 5, posters! Let's keep this going!

Are people at work while they are posting this bullshit? Or are they ignoring their kids?

We need to get a life. QUICKLY. (Note: adverb is correct)

Is your husband from a blue collar background?

"Lastly" and "finally" are synonymous and are both correct. In your sentences, "lastly" or "finally" function as adverbs, modifying the verb "went." Adverbial clauses are set off by commas.

Using "last" is incorrect, as it's an adjective.

Between you and I. I hate it when people say that (not necessarily on this forum).

Oh just admit it OP. You LOVE grammar mistakes. They give you something to feel superior about. (Besides your head-turning good looks and money, which may be here today and gone tomorrow). You will always have the grammar mistakes of others to complain about. When you are lonely, ugly and poor in your old age, when men are no longer turning their heads to look (except in pity), when your kids no longer call because they cannot stand to be corrected any longer, when you are sitting alone in your rocking chair in your thrift store cardigan, you can surf the web in search of grammar mistakes to correct.

Who thinks OP should buy everyone a copy of Eats, Shoots & Leaves? I mean, she makes 500K and it would be almost like giving to charity. She'd be helping to educate the DCUM community on proper grammar and that would make her a shining star in my eyes.

Okay, good to know. Thanks!
