YES: "I bought the car for my husband and me. "

Funny, my husband says this occasionally, and it drives me nuts.

I also hate when people say, "comprised of..."

Both are just so wrong.

Is your husband from a blue collar background?

Not the pp who posted about hubby, but I hear everybody say this, not just blue collar.

Tow the line.
Owe, the humanity.

My pet peeve is "flaunt" used in place of "flout."

Anonymous wrote:I'm amazed when the word "discrete" is used instead of "discreet."

As in, "Looking for a discrete woman to xxx and xxx."

Well, it tells you the author is not looking for Siamese twins.

Opposition to "comprised of" is now very rare, restricted to die-hard pedants, ageing spinsters, and obscurantist failures. History will leave them behind.

I grew up with a grammar nazi mother and I LOVE saying things like 'quick' instead of 'quickly' and 'I could care less' instead of 'I couldn't care less.' It makes me feel so FREE!!! You should try it. (Err, I guess some of you already do.)

OP, there are many bright people who just can't spell. There are many learning disabled people who lack good grammar/spelling. There are many people who didn't have access to a stellar education. Are they not welcome on this board? Are you raising your children to be this judgmental and unkind?

The OP already owns it. Duh.

I learned something today. I thought this was the correct usage and that people saying "comprised" with no "of" were saying it wrong. Now I know!

You know what really grates my cheese? People who say "service" when they mean "serve". As in "it's a great organization servicing the DC area". "Service" is what a stud dog does to a bitch in heat. Icks me out every time someone misuses it.

LOL! "it's a great organization fucking the DC area" might lead to more funding/donations ....

Yes, should be "composed of" or "comprises" but never "comprised of."

Discrete is my personal favorite mistake though!

I like "intensive purposes."

Carry on.

And now you know why so many people have hated you all these years.
