Uh- this is your JOB. My job has parts that I'm not fond of necessarily but it's my job and the profession I chose. You aren't entitled to gift cards (this is the most ridiculous notion anyway) or "tips" because you have to deal with an unpleasant (your subjective opinion) person. If you hate your job duties get a new job.

Ummm- I said they are NOT a nesecity.

They are not mutually exclusive--she is both. Based on her writing and grammar, she should be grateful that she hasn't been fired. I'm not going to follow this thread anymore, as I don't want to feed the troll

Hey OP -- if it means so much to you, I just thought I'd share that both my children's teachers received gifts in excess of 5x the amount of your perfect gift. Happy Holidays!

As a first year teacher at a Title 1 school, I didn't expect to get anything. I got an ornament with my first initial on it from the Dollar Store from one student, and a $25 Starbucks card from another.

I was so happy just to get something. I don't drink coffee and have probably been to Starbucks five times in my life. Someone took the time to get me the card, so I'll go in there and buy a bagel and a cup of hot water if that's all they sell.

Not the OP, but I do wonder why people get SB gift cards unless you know the person loves SB. Why not get them a card from Amazon or Target or one of those Am Ex cards?
Anonymous
Sb sells tea, pastries, and I think fruit based drinks without coffee. They also sell music CD's.

And I would not be surprised if there is a secondary market for SB gift cards.

Why would a teacher be bummed that you gave another teacher a gift? Don't you get it?
Anonymous
I didn't do teachers gifts this year, due to budget concerns, and have been feeling mild guilt over it. Thank you, OP! You've gotten me past that feeling!

Ummm- I said they are NOT a nesecity. And hell no, writing references is not part of my 'job'. Answering phone calls at 9pm because your snowflake left their homework packet somewhere is not my 'job'. And don't be a PITA and then ask me to fill out a reference for a private school. It asks specifically about parental engagement and support.
I don't give a hoot about a starbucks gift card or whatever else. I don't need your gift card to grab a latte.
And no way am I qutting my job! I get to come in here and piss you all off, by not being a doormat for your poor treatment, AND I have 2 weeks off right now. It's s goog gig.

Have a blog or something to post the daily assignment. Problem solved. Why on earth deod a parent have your home or cell to call you at 9 pm. Do not anwser. Simple.

I know it seems simple, but it is not. This particular parent calls meetings with the principal when her kiddo did not win a spot on student council, did not get a sticker on her work ect.

I do not pick up the phone when she calls- and like clock work she will demand a meeting with the principal for some supposed infraction. Right before break the meeting was because I did not let her kid talk to other students in the middle of a test.

I understand that the problem is school leadership. Or me- the terrible teacher.

Sounds like giving the kid a recommendation to attend said well would get you out of you hair
