If the staff have their kids there, it can help with quality education and treatment of students, as staff are then even more invested with a stake in the game beyond it just being a job.

No one - not founders, not Principals, not teachers - have a right to send their kids to DC public schools if the kids don't live in DC. You can boost staff preference all you want... a cheater is a cheater, and the more popular the school, the more bad publicity and heat they'll get when shut out parents find out they're giving their staff whose kids don't live in DC an illegal exception to the residency rules.

not entirely true. Non-DC residents can enroll where space is available (ie not "by right" technicallly) and pay tuition. It's not very common, but it is legally permissable

No, it not curious to me. Her IMPACT rating is based in part on increasing student enrollment. She has to bring in the numbers.
How can you all be so clueless?
It is exhausting to constantly tell folks the other side of DC- and have you all insist its made up. You do not know the district you think you support.

LOL, people believe what they want to believe. Hate to keep bringing up Rhee but I can't get over how people still post about bringing her back, do they not read the news of the stories about her and her fake resume, husband's prior investigations, and her lack of educational experience. As much as teacher's have reported that they don't have curriculum nor textbooks, she is still credited with solving both things in her first term. At DCPS, if the enrollment drops then the budget is cut for the following year and teachers and other administrative staff lose their jobs, how do you think that affect morale during the latter half of the school year?

I'm one of the PP's you're talking to, and the fact you think I'm from/teach in Tenlytown (or anywhere like it) is hysterical. Trust me, I know the "other side of DC" - I teach at an elementary that feeds into Hart middle. Is that "other side of DC" enough for you? And actually, I can understand why your Principal isn't trying to kick anyone out re: increasing enrollment. What I do NOT understand is, why any significant number of MD or VA parents would be carting their kids to your school (wherever it is - your post makes it sound like it's an underenrolled, not in demand school so...). Is your school really better than wherever they're coming from? Do that many people just happen to live in MD but work near your school? Seriously, I'm trying to figure out what kind of numbers you're talking about, and I can't believe it's many.

Regardless though, your posts were still ridiculous with the cursing and it may be worth realizing that people can absolutely know the same DC you do (very well) and still disagree with you.

No you don't know. If you did you would understand. Titke 1 schools have free lunch and free aftercare. Do you think that's incentive enough for some patents? If you don't think it is- then your knowledge base of DC is what is ridiculous. And think about geography. For schools that are close to the MD border we do attract kids who would otherwise be in PG schools.
But keep telling me you know more about my school. It's humorous.

Forgot to mention the lax suspension policies of DCPS. Many come here after being asked to leave border MD schools.

Never said I know "your" school - how could I when you haven't named it. That's more of you hearing what you want to instead of what's being said. And nothing you're saying is news to me, but I'm beginning to think it's because you've given no idea of the numbers of MD residents you're saying you see, so possibly I wouldn't consider it "a lot" and it would be easier to believe you. But your whole "you have no idea" is a) wrong and b) hurting your argument because it's clear you're making just as big assumptions as you're accusing others of making about you.

A lot of DC residents who have off-street parking (DC has cracked down on non-DC plates frequently parked on the street in DC) use a relative's address in MD to register their cars to keep their insurance low. Many of my neighbors do this--it's not good, but they are actually DC residents.

We do that now. When we purchase our investment property in the tidewater area, we will register the vehicles there. Car registration is cheaper, no yearly emissions, and cheaper car insurance makes it worth keeping car from DMV registration. We have off street parking in our DC home, so no need to park on the DC streets.

If it's a title 1 school, would the kids not receive free lunch, breakfast, and aftercare in a marland school as well? They have title 1 schools in Maryland.

Ha! Funny you write this...my godson, who lives in Moco, plays on this team.

Earlier this year I got semi-flamed for writing something negative about Excel PCS. People really want to believe that the culture of DC has changed a great deal. Yes, it is changing for the better but it has a long way to go before the deeply entrenched old-school culture of shadiness is gone.

DC investigates Friendship football team members every year and has even done home visits. The parents always have someone in DC with a room for the kid and a document stating they are caring for the kid. Perhaps you're the person defrauding the city for your Moco nephew?

I understand that parents want opportunities for their kids but opportunities are being taken away from kids who live in DC. This needs to stop and this behavior should be seen for what it is - criminal.

Do you think it's possible for The Wire to come back for a sixth season, and have the focus be uncovering the corruption behind DCPS and DC charter residency fraud? Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
