Residency cheaters welcome - the story of Excel Academy PCS

Excel is the all girls school and then there is an all boys school- but the name escapes me.
Both of them suck- in terms of actually educating kids. So not much 'education' going on. Just a waste of public funds- in general.

I was told that those kids were able to attend because the parent is a staff person - even though they are NOT DC residents. This sounds like BS to me, but it is being done openly and the Charter School Board has allowed it to happen. It is not a school I am interested in but I have many friends who live in DC who would have liked to get one of the lottery spots and they did not.

can you please share the school name?

Clearly the Charter School Board (and not just their CFO) is as corrupt as the schools doing the cheating.

I hope the new Mayor throws them all out and starts over with a team that'll promote transparency and accountability (the real kind).

Didn't the PCSB now allow staff's children to attend? In addition to the founder preference?

Yes, but you have to LIVE IN THE DISTRICT. Maryland tax dollars do not follow the child into the District. As a DC resident, I have huge issues with my tax dollars supporting a child whose family does not live here.

The all boys school is septima clark. If it is still up and running.

That school was awful, really terrible, it was supposed to be shut down once already (Septima Clark). I actually thought it had, not all charter schools are good especially those in less desirable areas. Sadly, in some instances the parents who send their children there are not educated about the school system to know that their children are getting a sub-standard education or the nearby DCPS school is even worse. The Charter school board doesn't seem to do a great job of monitoring some of these schools, it seems to take a long time for anyone to act on the complaints. I know this because someone I know worked there; I also worked for a company that did business at the school, as such I had occasion to visit the school on more that one occasion.

Yes this is what you get when you renew schools in 15- and 20-year increments.

When are people going to start taking this cheating seriously?

It closed. Thank God. I worked there, briefly, and it was terrible terrible place for children.

Did you call the charter board to report this? Otherwise you're just basing this on rumor.

I counted 11 MD plates at my DD school on Friday. And before anyone says it could be a nanny, sitter etc., the child gave the adults a kiss goodbye.

You go to any Capitol Hill schools and you'll see long lines of Maryland-tagged cars dropping off kids. Mommas going to their gub'mint jobs in downtown DC find it more convenient than Maryland schools. I estimate that 60 percent of the children in Capitol Hill schools have their home in Maryland.

Do you report the license plates?

I do again and again. Nothing happens.
