s/o Does anyone on DCUM actually like their in-laws?

Anonymous
someone posted a quote recently that was instructive to me. along the lines of: "a mother is someone, upon seeing there are 4 piece of pie and 5 ppl, who announces she never did care for pie."

my mil would grab the first piece of pie and wrap a second to take home with her. enough said.

Me too! -OP

I would be crushed if my child felt this way. I guess I have pretty great parents, I can't imagine liking even most wonderful ILs better than them.

I think it depends on how your parents are. I am one of the posters who likes my in-laws more than my parents. It doesn't mean that I don't love my parents, I do. But they are very high drama and high maintenance (my father mainly) and can create friction, while my ILs are lovely, low-key people who raised a lovely, low-key son and I find being around them a lot more relaxing than I do being around my own parents. Plus, multiple people commented on the personality similarity between me and MIL so that similarity probably helps the vibe - my mother is a truly lovely person who I do not have much personality in common with (it's a joke in my family that I take after my aunt and my cousin takes after my mom, but it's a true one).

I could do w/o my MIL maybe. But I love all four of her kids, one being my DH. So, I love my ILs

I hated my ILs until I had kids, and they were such loving grandparents they won me over. Now the things that used to seriously bother me about them seem like minor annoyances.

I would like BIL and SIL more if they stopped inviting themselves to our house and then refusing to help clean up after dinner because "guests shouldn't have to do any work, we're on vacation." Hello, DH and I both have full-time jobs and this is supposed to be our vacation too.

my in laws do this all the time, sil included, and it drives me nuts. they sit and wait for their plates to be collected, and just sit on the couch and mess around on their phones or read a magazine while everyone else cleans up.

love my FIL and MIL, I am one that is very close to my MIL/FIL but not so much my parents. FIL - respected by so many, a great role model. MIL - sometimes a little eccentric, but huge heart and after all she has done in life, I think that's ok . none of the eccentricities really cause any issues unless you make them.

some of the SILs, well another story, that we manage.
