Marriage is happy because DH finally received much needed therapy, and divulged how awful his birth family really was. He will only say so behind closed doors, as he still fears his birth family, and probably always will. Even though MIL wants the satisfaction of hearing what we really think of her, she never will. Too bad for her. Guess we'll have to announce it when she's gone

I love my inlaws - they're so much less drama than my own parents.

Mine are wonderful. And DH gets along great with my parents. And perhaps best of all, my parents and my in-laws get along so well that they make plans to see each other even without us! We're usually present because they tend to meet at our house (as all are out of state), but there were times when the kids were small when they'd all decide to visit at once, and after a couple hours with the grandkids, would go out for coffee on their own. Or they'd all take the kids to the park and DH and I could get a break. I am very lucky!

PP here. Also, that says so much (positive) about your parents and your ILs (and consequently, DH and you!).

Terrible awful inlaws. My guess is that people who like their inlaws don't bother posting while the rest of us want a place to vent.

My MIL is perfection. I aspire to be half the person she is.

I think *most* people realize that.

Mine are awful as well. FIL essentially modeled everything not to do as a father (or spouse) to DH. MIL then used my DH as her confidant, best friend, etc, so he did see the effects of FIL. He just recently realized himself how selfish they are (after I told him a few times), and how he does have that trait at times. He's working very hard to not be anything like them, and is quite successful. We don't live near the in-laws (thankfully), but see them 3-4 times a year.

Marriage is wonderful, we compliment each other well and he's without question my best friend. I deal with my in-laws because they are his parents, and while his childhood had issues, he obviously loves his parents dearly. Just need to remind my FIL to put the loaded, unsecured gun in the attic before we come to visit next...

Man here - re-married. First inlaws were alright. Love my current inlaws, absolutely awesome. I completely won the lottery. My parents are nowhere near as good as ILs as my ILs are.

A couple of serious between marriage LTRs: 1) worst nightmare ILS EVER EVER EVER. I used to go to this website:

http://www.motherinlawstories.com/mother-in-law_stories_frequent_fry_her.htm

just to get some much needed laughter and relief. Seriously, they were the worst ever. I totally ducked a bullet when ex-fiance and I broke up.

2nd set - FIL was an alcoholic con man, so he was pleasant to be around, good conversation, but a disaster waiting to happen. MIL was wonderful - better than her daughter.

Many awful inlaws are a perfect example to spouse what NOT to do - a blessing in disguise!

My in-laws are like family to me. We get along most of the time, we have disagreements sometimes, and I love them.

I like my MIL and love the way she loves my kids. She gets on my nerves at times, but family does that on occasion and it's not the end of the world to me to be mildly annoyed. We try to get along and we do enjoy each other's company most of the time.

My FIL, I can enjoy when he's sober and i really wish that were a more frequent occurrence, but when he's drunk, our dynamic is just one of boundaries.
