One of these is not like the others. What are you, some kind of Amherst troll?

Agree. Troll.

Williams is a potted Ivy, almost as hard to get into as the Big Boys. No way is it ranked with the schools you listed. Equal to Notre Dame? Really.

Certainly not in football... Or spirit.

I have no dog in this fight, but Williams is head and shoulders above Notre Dame.

In what?

this feels like the Penn State v. Tulane discussion all over again. culty football school v. elitey safety school

Do you think they get that (materialism) from Americans and other the Western countries since Korean was split during the Korean War, Japan lost to us in WWII and communist China wasn't really going anywhere without the self-motivated greed that is commercialism? And Hong Kong, which had been controlled by the British, was a booming economic success. So they adopted our values and one way to get ahead is through school.

No - I think the government creates such competition because it limits success to only a very small percentage of their population. Asian countries have VERY few spots at prestigious/world class universities families need to steam roll over each other.

It's ingrained into the Asian culture through no responsibility of America's war success.

It's been part of Chinese culture for a long time. Read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_examination

Pretty impressive actually.

In all seriosity, as GW Bush might say, ND and Williams are very different places. Sure, Williams has become a very selective small liberal arts college. It offers an experience that may be harder to find at larger Notre Dame. ND, which has become hard to get into, offers may experiences that are lacking at Williams -- a lot more than just football. I doubt very seriously that there is much application overlap with the schools. Most students who are set on Williams probably wouldn't be interested in ND and vice versa.

Stanford is still Stanford.

The only "second tier" USC would be South Carolina (and a great choice at that).
