You need to cook them before pickling. Cooking brings out the sweetness in beets, so yes!


I think I've only ever had them cooked. Maybe beets just aren't for me. DS2, 4, loves them, however, so I buy the overpriced package at Whole Foods for him.

i could eat kale salads and sauteed kale all day long. haven't gone so far as having kale smoothies though.

I've always LOVED beets. Hardly anyone does, though. Cannot understand why.

Pineapple Habanero sauce/salsa at Costco.. This goes on anything and everything - chips, chicken, rice, vegetables, burritos, etc. Delish!

Go for it. Spinach works better, consistency wise, in a smoothie, than kale, though.

Hey, PP, I think I'm that PP that mentioned Major Dickason's coffee. I learned it from an acquaintance who was a chef that had studied at Cordeon Bleu in Paris. She had sampled every brand out there. Also there is some story there--something like the person who came up with that coffee helped with Starbucks blends in some way (I don't remember the story but there is some connection). This was a few years ago so there might be something tastier, but every single person who has my coffee spontaneously comments on how good my coffee is.

Not bitter at all. I buy the mango prefrozen. Blueberries we buy fresh and stick them in the freezer.
