What bathroom renos done today will stand the style test of time? How about mine?

I think OP said "existing" wood floors, so he/she may have made a choice based on something other than aesthetic. Possibly cheaper to keep them and, if something goes wrong, just replace then.

+1

No one has a crystal ball, OP. Pick what you like.

As long as you are not doing "bowl sinks," I think you are okay.

I do like this bathroom notwithstanding the grey grout:

Public toilet in big city train station.

You must be frequenting some really classy train stations...

Granny figured out the internet

This one just hurts the eyes.

Such an explosion of marble, punctuated with a line of misplaced subway tiles. Speechless.

??

I don't think you know what subway tile is.

Looks like basket weave marble to me. Not subway tile.

Too much marble for me, but I like elements for sure.

For those declaring they like big tiles for the shower, show us pics. I can't think of any big ones that don't feel already dated to me.

If subway tile or basket weave marble isn't classic, what is? Tan or brown limestone everywhere already seems "out@ to me.

Classic may be quality materials, whatever they are (natural stones) used wisely into the overall design. Personally I like bathrooms made to look a little like rooms, with nice trim etc.

I posted the marble bath with the washstand. It just looks like it could be from any era. I agree with the PP about having them look like rooms, and trimmed out. White bathrooms with marble are also going to look more like the ones in europe that have been around forever.

This one has larger tiles, so fewer grout lines. Not the shower, but you get the point. Also, while I think the penny and hex floors look very classic/old fashioned, they make very large floor tiles NONSLIP now, so you can have those, and get a timeless look and also expand the eye and perspective through a more sweeping tile schema.

Love the black tile touch here too. Do you guys think that's classic or dated? No crystal ball here.

Agree. Please keep up. We're all glad you're speechless.

Hey, that's my bathroom! Well, not really. But very close. Wainscoting + subway + honeycomb -- but it's an old house so that seemed right to me. 6 years past reno and I still lovvvvvvvvve it.

What honeycomb?

PP said close but not exact. I would imagine she meant they have honeycomb instead of hardwoods on the floor.

Exactly -- small honeycomb floor tiles.

The wainscoting is totally fine, not banged up and ruined. It's been up for almost 10 years. I'm not surprised that it's in good shape since I used to live in a Victorian house that had original wainscoting in the bathroom that was also just fine. Painted wainscoting is very sturdy!

^^ me again

Floor tile like

And I don't have baseboard heat, actually. Steam convectors, which I LOVE. Best heat ever.

Honey comb floors, super trendy . . Thus, will look dated.

Hahah! Yes, will look dated... to 1915.

I'd consider that black tile border a pretty classic look.

I do think it's a nice look and very european, however, I just stayed at my friend's beautiful apartment and her marble bathrooms are death traps. SO SLIPPERY.

Once in a lifetime (I had that in the 1980s was enough for me -- so dirty, so much cleaning)

The great thing about this one is that is it ugly and dated now and will be that way for a long time.
