| Smoothie with protein powder. But I gotta say, I'd be chewing my arm off. I'd rather just eat healthy, balanced snacks and meals and exercise. |

Entire can of tuna with 2 tbl mango-lime salsa.
That would be 120 calories . Fill you right up. Can splurge on an egg and fruit for your last 125 |

OP here -
Week 1 complete - 0 lbs lost. I know results dont happen overnight for everyone but I have been so good this week, made it to the gym 4 times (cardio and weight training) and ate really well, but not perfectly on my non-500 cals days. It just sucks. |
I'm sure I'll get reamed for this but try going vegan. Cut out all dairy, eggs and meats (leave the occasional fish if you like). Cutting out dairy alone DH and I each lost 5 lbs. Cutting out meat and the others (really forcing us to eat a lot of great veggies and whole grains (lots of rice) we dropped another 20 without insane exercise. You have to do it for at least 2 weeks for your body to rid itself of all the dairy, but it was so worth it for us. Seriously, starving yourself is so not the answer. Even one day of 500 cals (much less than you need to function) often results in your body going into starvation mode where it's obviously going to hold onto the calories from the other days. |
Thanks but going vegan is not sustainable for me. I think a lot of things would work in theory - vegan, paleo, Atkins, etc, but the problem is finding something that I will actually follow. I dont eat that much dairy but I try to incorporate lean protein in the form of meat and chicken and would just end up eating carbs - bread and pasta - if I went vegan. |
Hang in there ... It really does take a few weeks of consistent effort. For me, because I am post menopausal, it took 6 weeks. But in the meantime you are eating more healthy, getting control over your hunger signals, and probably starting to lose fat even though the scale is being petulant. After a week or a few weeks of no scale movement, you will be rewarded with what JUDDDers refer to a a "whoosh" which is a nice big loss all at once. It will give you a nice mental boost. So just keep focused on eating really healthy food. Good luck! |
Going vegan is certainly an option for some, but the notion that even one day of eating 500 calories will put your body in starvation mode is just scientifically inaccurate. As long as you cycle calories higher and lower on intervening days, no starvation mode. |

I am amazed by how many ppl believe in this myth that if you reduce your calories to 500 / day for just a couple days a week, you are going to put your body into "starvation mode".
Just sooooo not accurate. Starvation mode is such a misunderstood concept. |
I am pretty sure they tell themselves that as an excuse to eat more. Then they whine and wonder why they're still fat. |
In fairness, the reason people believe the " starvation mode in just one day" baloney is because so many dietitians, diet books, nutrition web sites, and even organizations like AHA and ADA continue to trot it out. And don't get me started on how poor the nutritional training is for doctors ... Yeesh. |
