Because you don't blow your money on frivolous matters, you are not a sheeple, and maybe (just maybe) you ROCK the ponytail. Ask your husband, he'll tell you.

WTH is a sheeple? Someone who follows the crowd?

A "sheeple" is a member of the populace for whom people who consider themselves populists have nothing but scorn.

Keep telling yourself that. Feel better now? Didn't think so.

Or maybe they pull their graying locks that tight in an attempt to give themselves a less jowly look. We used to call that the "Altoona Facelift".

OP, since you asked, I really don't think they care what you think. I mean, they are rich, and could buy and sell you many times over, so you are no one to them.

Until they have a baby. Then, the norm seems to be "I get to look frumpy until the youngest starts middle school." I had never seen skinny and frumpy together until I moved to MoCo. All those Bethesda moms with the awful ponytail and flats daily uniform know they can afford to look better.

yeah, how tacky. why not wear 4-inch heels while chasing kids and grocery shopping?

There are shoes in between flats meant for a pre-teen and 4 inch heels, y'know. Sorry that I struck a nerve. Are you wearing a high or low pony today?

I am amused that "I bet you wear flats and a ponytail!" is an insult somewhere. Who needs to travel to experience other cultures?

I thought my pony and flats were cute!! hey!!!
no seriously, what am I supposed to wear during the day?

Yes, I've never seen an attractive person working at the DMV.

You think GS-15s are rich?

Being rich is much more than just having a shit ton of money. And as you douchebags get older and stop getting damp over the latest Front Gate catalog, you'll realize it what you've missed and that you can't get it back.

OP here. I did not mean that people go under the knife to look good. I just mean to say that even plain people can look well put together by getting a great haircut and wearing clothes that flatter them. I do not mean just having access to designer clothes, shoes and handbags - that many rich people are wearing, but still managing to look not well put together.

I also do not agree with a PP assertion that being good looking is a detriment in this city. I think people can look good and still be a power player.

People in DC just don't know how to dress. I don't know why that is, but it is true.

Signed,

Bitter, Poor, Hateful and Ugly, to boot
(and without a clue how to have so much money, referencing Frontgate, really?)

Compared to the vast majority of DMV residents, yes.

Maybe OP means the skinny, horse-faced Old Money crowd from VA, but they live far enough from DCUMlandia that I rarely have to see their visages.

Uh most of the old money is in DC

There is such a huge market for stylists in this city - unlimited potential.

I think they are too stingy to spend money to even think of buying and selling anything. Perhaps, they should practice spending money by hiring a stylist and getting a makeover?
