I think it was for everyone who goes or will go to the school. I found out by chance by talking to a patent at the playground. |
We are enrolled and didn't hear about the playdate-- how was it publicized? Would love to hear about future efforts-- is there a listserv to join other than MOTH (which we aren't inboundary for?) |
There is a listserv, and you can find it in MOTH if you search for Ludlow Taylor . I am an incoming parent and just joined. I know very little about anything but my impression is that this was mostly for the young new kids and parents to meet each other. But it was at the playground, outside, so really anyone could go. You did not even have to be an LT parent to go, as the playground is open to all during weekends. I guess it was not well publicized at all ! |
Ops sorry you said you are not on MOTH? My misunderstanding, sorry. It is a yahoo group so you can search there and ask to be invited by email. |
It was mentioned several times on the LTES yahoo group; we couldn't attend, but my impression was that it was intended to welcome new families to the school, and open to any current LT families who wished to attend. |
Any updates on the interview process? Will there be any more public meeting announced over the course of the selection process? |
Cobb is a top-notch administrator. Colorado is lucky to get her. Her critics on this forum are generally self-serving busy bodies who have no idea what effective administration looks like. She just wasn't the "right" color. I find that as soon as white administrators are named to a school, the accolades start- often before the new appointee has even entered the building. |
^^ bitter? |
not bitter but just making an observation. |
...read in another thread a refence to an alleged 'PTA coup' at LT some time ago and could not find info despite having read almost all the LT post on here. Can someone enlighten me?
Also, when will we know who the new principal is? Last I have heard there were 5 candidates being considered but I have no info on who they might be. |
^^^ Ah, a lot of people aren't too happy with the Capitol Hill Cluster. You'd be best with a DC resident and preferrably someone who lives IB or at least in the immediate area. |
New principal is Debra Bell. From the notification letter:
"Debra Bell began her career in education as an elementary teacher and spent 4 years teaching in both California and Michigan. She then served as a math specialist for 4 years and a reading specialist for 10 years. In 1997, she became the supervisor of language arts, gifted, foreign language and Title I for Hopewell Public School in Hopewell, Virginia. She transitioned into school-based leadership as the principal of Emily Spong Preschool Center in Portsmouth, Virginia where she served for 4 years. In 2007, she assumed leadership of C.M. Bradley Elementary School in Warrenton, Virginia. Ms. Bell has been an instructional coach in the DC Public Schools Office of Early Childhood Education since 2010. She holds a bachelor’s degree in special education from Wayne State University as well as a master’s degree in educational administration and curriculum design from San Francisco State University." |
Anyone had any experience with her? |
She sounds promising at any rate. Is she old, young, AA, white, Asian, Latino, DC or Hill resident at any stage...? Anybody met her? Anybody else a tad annoyed that the appointment was made at the speed of light? There couldn't have been a lot of community input.

Think the PTA coup was Payne. I'm not independently confirming, that's just what I recall from DCUM. |
