DC CAS 2013-14 LT: 79% Math proficient/advanced; 77% Reading proficient/advanced Maury: 69% Math proficient/advance; 68% Readin proficient/advanced It's about race. |
sorry for the phone typo. I think I fixed. |
If it doesn't lead to better academic outcomes, what is the intrinsic value of higher IB kids/fewer kids receiving FARMs? |
LT may have strong outcome in terms of DCCAS results but this is not necessarily the be all to end all. How much teaching to the test is going on? DCCAS songs and pep rallies suggests a culture weighted to test preparation. It will be interesting to watch the school's trajectory over the next few years. |
Awesome trolling. Maury is still 40 percent AA. It's not Janney. |
The trolls will keep trolling until the LT bashers come up with a plausible, alternative answer to the question. |
Which district school has the highest percent of white students? |
OMG. |
When is LT going to share the recipe for its test score pixie dust? Why isn't Brent emulating the highest performing school on the Hill? Inquiring minds want to know! |
LT, half portfolio testing and half erase-to-the-top. That's the pixie dust. |
The erase-to-the-top was years ago, and more than 1 principal ago. Honestly, you just sound bitter that a majority AA and relatively high FARMS school is leading the Hill scores. I don't disagree with a PP who said that DC CAS is not the be-all and end-all, but for predominantly white populations DCUMers tend to place stock in its value. The difference here is "culture"/test prep conditions. These are just euphemisms for too many AA for the north Stanton Park crowd. I grant you the portfolio testing for about 15-20% of the test-takers is a factor. |

You're painting with much too broad a brush. If DCUMers scores were in fact "placing stock" on impressive DC CAS scores for low SES kids, they'd have mobbed LT's elementary grades years ago. I'm not hearing euphemisms, I'm hearing complaints about years of tone-deaf leadership at the school. My gut feeling is that DCPS and the new principal won't change much until a demographic tidewave and scores of pesky in-boundary parents without good elementary alternatives force their hand. |
Lafayette with 73% |
I would have to guess the students doing the portfolios have pretty severe disabilities. (I know Ludlow has a contained autism class). Portfolios are usually a lot of work it's not something you can slack off. |
Mann has got to be whiter than that. |
