So will the new principal take on the MD address cheaters?? |
^^ Yeah, and will the principal be a DC resident or at a minimum someone who's interested in growing the neighborhood and LT as a neighborhood school? |
The principal selection panel will get to decide what questions to ask. The panel will include members of the PTA, LSAT, and parents. I would definitely recommend asking at least one question about this and find out what the candidates would do to make it a school that neighborhood families want to send their kids to. |
(To be clear, the panel will also include teacher and staff members) |
Was the letter sent out? Can anyone share the contents? |
Dammit. My daughter's at LT, and despite all the negative talk about the principal, I had full confidence she ran a tight ship and would ensure my daughter got a great education.
I don't care where her successor lives or whether or not s/he is good at wooing IB families -- I want to know s/he will retain Cobbs' excellent hires and the positive environment for learning that she created. I was counting on keeping my daughter there through 5th, and sending her younger sibling there. Now I have no idea whether I'll be able to stick with that plan or not. |
PP I think you should see if you can be part of the hiring committee. They'd value opinion as the parent of a student at the school. I know of an acquaintance who was part of a hiring committee at another school and she said she was able to interview the different principals. |
Jeez, why doesn't L-T have a PTA hiring panel like Maury? This head will be L-T's third DCPS-imposed principal in recent memory. We were thrilled when principal #1 departed, which soon seemed naive. Perhaps enough neighborhood parents of tiny tots will gain confidence from Cobbs' departure to change the culture of the school the point that no principal could afford to be somewhat neighborhood hostile and address-cheater friendly again. Hope so. |
Does anyone know why she's leaving? Is there enough time for a proper DCPS panel (with 3 candidates vetted and sent from downtown and then the parents, teachers interviewing and deciding on one)? Or will they have to have an interim principal. I'm glad that she's leaving, I"m certainly no fan, but just hoping that it won't cause undo disruption to the progress being made at L-T. |
Have they scheduled the community meeting yet where you can ask these questions? We are at Cooke, and they scheduled the meeting for a few days after the letter went home making the announcement. The process is really fast. |
They are having a community event to discuss the hiring process this coming Wednesday at 6:00 PM. Principal Cobbs took a position in Colorado. |
What's the request? What does the PTA and community want?
Is it mainly just a neighborhood-friendly principal or demonstrated experience in specific areas? |
Possibility of a neighborhood-friendly principal? I think my property value just went up. That, and a decent renovation completed Stuart Hobson could make the Stanton Park neighborhood amazing. Wouldn't loose friends to NW and VA anymore, hopefully. |
If you're a concerned member of the community or if you;ve ever considered LT as an school option for your child PLEASE get involved in the discussion.
The goal is to HELP folks at LT further their cause. So, after we find out what that is specifically we all should back them up. |
Where's the 6:00 PM meeting? Someone putting this on MOTH too?
LT needs a neighborhood-centric principal who is also a competent manager for the staff. If you have good teachers, make sure the principal isn't a jerk - coz otherwise the teachers will leave. Look at Watkins ....... The principal better take school safety seriously too! Nice to know someone IB to LT knows that a good school increases property values and neighborhood stability. At Watkins someone was arguing that's BS; we're losing neighbors. |
