Just venting-I am so over the Country Club Mom Club

While working, I interacted primarily with PPL who shared a common experience and educational background and with my friends and family. When your interactions with adults are dictated by the bus stop, who is room parent in your kids class, or in your aerobics class, you're "social circle" is less homogeneous than when you're working. You don't necessarily have anything in common with the PPL you interact with on a daily basis. Your world views just clash more often. I think it's been a great reminder of what kids' lives are like. Our kids are in school with kids whose families don't necessarily share our values. It forces you to be a little more thoughtful about what your values are and to teach your kids why you make the choices you do.

One other thing to note. Demanding jobs weed out the truly crazy. The school bus stop does not. There are more really wacky PPL out there then I ever imagined. For a while I thought I should right a novel about the characters in my Montgomery County neighborhood. Who would of guessed?? Working dad's who miss this scene have no idea what we endure.

Although I have no experience with country club moms, I have too much experience with mom cliques of all types from my years at home. And it's shocking how easy it is to get sucked into that vortex. OP, I would suggest at least a part-time job or a fulfilling, time-consuming hobby, and that kind of stuff won't even register anymore.

At least you are not in Belle Haven. Then the talk is where do your kids go to school. Public schools, oh you poor dear.

Is this real? If I met a vapid woman like the OP described I wouldn't want to be around her. Who the hell goes to Starbucks in a tennis skirt? Someone who obviously didn't really get a workout in.

Boring life...so glad I live in DC and don't know any of these people.

You know you wish you could join us regular folks at Great Wolf Lodge.

Great Wolf? I was thinking of the pool at the Super 8.

It could be that they're just from New England originally. There are a lot of transplants here. The Cape to New Englanders is the same as the Shore for NJ and Ocean City for this area. No one really blinks except I guess you.

You are so much better than them, PP!

Oh, okay. So then it categorically cannot be annoying to hear people who live in million dollar homes in Chevy Chase talk about their million dollar second homes on the Cape? Whoops, how did I not know that. Thanks for telling me now before I really embarrass myself!

Take it easy. Just know several people who vacation or have family houses on the Cape that could not afford a vacation regularly at Great Wolf Lodge. If they are millionaires, they can vacation wherever they want.

This thread is ridiculous. The DC area is full of people who've never set foot in a country club. The entire area is full of people actually wherever you go. If rich snobby people are so much of a bother, move or find another group to hang out with. Easy.

I'm one of the CC skirt wearing moms. I like to shower at home after playing. Big whoop if I stop for a coffee or run an errand on the way home. Believe me, I'm not looking to impress anyone. There are plenty of women running around in yoga pants- can't say that's a better look. Why do you give a FF about people wearing tennis clothing? You sound insecure and jealous.

This... How about when we run into each other at Starbucks you ignore my tennis skirt and I'll ignore your Lululemon camel toe.

Tennis skirts, dark tans and a Starbucks cup are absolute requirements for the Jamestown SAHM bus-stop crowd.

... Should have added that is not necessarily a bad look-- these women spend half of their days working out-- but it is a look of indulgence.

Wow- I play tennis on the municipal courts all the time and sometimes wear my tennis clothes doing errands before or after. Never thought it bothered people to see me in tennis clothes. It's a great sport that I love to play. Not sure why anyone cares about other people's athletic wear (be it running, soccer, yoga, tennis, etc..) I find this post very strange.

I guess I don't really care what people wear or how they fill their idle days. I don't self-identify that way but I probably am perceived 180 degrees in the opposite direction. To each her own.

So, from a working dad's perspective, the closest counterparts are probably some of the guys who live in DC and bike or run in to work downtown and show up at the elevator sweaty and under-dressed for the office every morning.

Can't call them poseurs because it's legitimate, tree-saving exercise. The only problem is they drip, they stink, and they talk about the conditions outside like they just climbed Mount Everest, and everyone else has to pretend to be interested.
