No kidding. Talk about foolish with your money!

Agreed. Yup, I put my kid in target, tcp and osh kosh. And Payless shoes. I'm not wasting money on clothes and shoes that get trashed!

Only buy hannas when they are on massive sale.

Oh, so it's okay to buy status stuff if it's on sale? Hypocrite.

Hanna's are hardly "status" They are good quality clothing, but kind of expensive. So I don't think buying something for the same price as you would pay for an inferior product is hypocritical. For the record, Target ain't that cheap! I have somethings found things for good prices, but other times found it to be just a couple of dollars cheaper and has less soft fabrics and the seams are itchy. (some kids are sensitive to those things.)

Could you define 'expensive'? Not trying to be snarky, just truly wondering. What's "expensive", in your book, for a pair of 6-year-old girl's sandals?

Anything over $25 is expensive to me for a 6 yo sandals. $10-20 is more like it.

I think it is crazy to spend a lot of money, but I would rather buy decent quality and fewer pairs. I would NEVER buy designer shoes, but something like birkenstocks in the summer, for example, so their feet are comfortable and supported are not cheap. I think it is important to have good shoes. Likewise I think good quality, well made (no labels) clothing is also important. I feel like kids will be miserable and fidgety in class if they are wearing itchy polyester clothes. I am willing to pay a bit more for my kids comfort, but do not do so to impress anyone.....

Anyone I know that has a big, new house paid cash. Wish I could! Sorry for you that it is such a big deal to you.

NP. You know what McMansions are, right? It's a 10000 sq ft house on a little tiny piece of land - like what would look ok for a 1500 ft bungalow.

There aren't many 10K SF houses on small lots. Most of the new houses are about 3000 to 6000SF. It's ok not to understand what you can't achieve.

Congratulations! So you've achieved a 6000 SF house in the exburbs outside the beltway on a postage sized lot. Enjoy!

Huh? Everyone I know did NOT pay cash. So what's your point? It's a status symbol regardless of financing.

I have some of those things, but I did not buy them for you, or to impress you, or particularly care whether you think they are impressive or not.

... but let me tell you what DOES impress me! When you walk out of your old grubby condo in the poor side of town, with your ratty hair, and thrift store clothes and get into your beat up old Volvo, I just swoon.

We have a 5000sf new house inside the beltway near a metro. Not sure why you are blasting pp. We don't consider it a status symbol we just enjoy the space. I know you are a sad person but that's another thread.

I don't think Hanna's are status at all, but the pp seems to, or she wouldn't feel the need to justify.

The thread is about intentional status symbols, not $ paid for the product.
