Keep in mind that this year LAMB's first day of school is a good bit later than nearly every other school. And there is a tradition here of doing this kind of event just before the start of school. The school you switched from has different traditions, apparently. Not better or worse, just different.

What's happened in the last couple years at LAMB is people all meet at a park, and kids wear a particular color representing the community you will be in. Makes it easier to find people you might want to introduce yourself to first.

Yes, we all know DCUM is not the ideal place for positivity so I take all the negative comments with a grain of salt. We're super excited about LAMB and just eager to meet others since this is our first kid entering pk3. Lots of other schools have had their summer play dates, so why is it so hard to imagine we could have one too? I get that the weekend before school makes sense for a lot of reasons, but if there's enough interest in meeting up before that on August 12 let's do it. Naysayers can sit this one out!

LAMB knows what it's doing and you don't. There are plenty of people who would be happy to take your spot if you don't like it.

I think you should aim for an additional earlier play date if you can make it work. But one reason they wait until this date is because classroom assignments are not likely to come out much earlier than a few weeks before this date. Particularly this year with the addition of the Walter Reed campus and whole classrooms and teachers moving campuses. It makes logical sense to wait until classroom assignments are firm to hold the official playdate. But there isn't any reason you shouldn't do another general playdate earlier if you can arrange it.
