Plus ONE. |
Plus 2. I was still ok after reading the OTM allegations...but after the last round of DSS reports were released I decided not to send my child. I thought the Director was great, I really hope they get things straightened out there with a few months straight of her being there. I just wasn't willing to subject my child to the "turnaround". |
The preschool teacher was Mrs.Monica and she left at the end of June, I believe, and then it was the two's teacher Ms.Tia, but she left in the middle of July. They both were really friendly and was very knowledgeable. |
High turnover is not the sign of a quality program. I worked in preschools many years ago and those are signs of a problem between management and the staff. The problem sounds like it is coming from the owner. |
Agreed but also know turnover happens with most things 'new'. There has also been the change in management so a total of four people left or were asked to leave since April including the director. |
If the director was asked to leave, that may have been the problem. Can anyone with children currently enrolled chime in here? |
Most of those violations happened when the first program director was away or on vacation, I think. |
Current parent here, enrolled one week after they opened. The owner was away due to family illness. The director was very nice but many of the violations did occur while the owner was out. There was a parent meeting last month where the owner shared the violations and stated that she would return full time and would begin looking for another director. At the time, the first director was still around but in a different role. About two weeks ago, the first director was either asked to leave or left. The owner is now there full-time and there is an assistant director there as well. Even with all of the changes, my 4 year old is very happy. He loved Ms. Tia but he also seems to really enjoy the new preschool teacher. The biggest difference I've seen in the last week is the new teacher seems a little more focused on skill building where the previous focus seemed to be on art and play. |
Thanks current parent, just saw the recent violations and while they are concerning I do appreciate hearing the way they reacted - by acknowledging them addressing them directly with parents. We aren't due 'till spring so we'll see how things turn out. |
Still totally unacceptable |
Can't believe they left that toddler in the high chair for two hours! That is child abuse. |
Is that teacher still there? |
Yes my child is in that class and I know this situation because I spent lots of time in that class what I observed was a "busy" toddler who did nothing but bite in that classroom, the teachers did all they could do they shadow him made him their special friend etc.. from what I observed the days I was there he bit at least 4 times a day so the teacher in the class placed him in the high chair with crayons and paper and different activities, although the child in a high chair sounds bad the child was not in any danger nor upset. The only thing wrong in this situation is that the owner should have terminated that family after the first bite! |
Yes I too have children at Discovery Time and I just want to say the owner is such a nice young lady who has lots of patience and is dedicated to the families. I've been reading a lot of the post and I find it to be unfair to her and what she is trying to accomplish. Many of us have started a business or another big project and sometimes there were obstacles to overcome, everything turns out to be a learning experience and she tries so hard to please the families with a smile on her face each and every day through all the craziness and that is to be commended. The owner is in the process of hiring new teachers, she just hired an outstanding preschool teacher and a very helpful professional assistant director so the center is coming together. Those who have anything negative to say about this center please find me a center with absolutely no violations! In fact before finding this center my child was at a center on duke street where the teachers forgot a child in the classroom and locked her inside while they went to the playground so again find me a center with no violations!
