Discovery Time Learning Center (Del Ray)

Ms.Florence was the program director and then a manager.

I just read it also. I believe it has merit. The owner/director is a hothead and inexperience when it comes to managing a program. I am going to start looking for another location for my child I don't see this program lasting long.

I'm a current parent and love the warm community that has been established by the team at Discovery Time. There have been two teachers to leave since the school opened 3 months ago, one was by termination as a PP mentioned from the information provided on the licensing site and I think the other teacher left on her own. The school that we previously attended went through 1-2 teachers per month so I've actually been surprised that there hasn't been more turnover. The owner just recently came back as director this month. I think that she has a lot of cleaning up to do considering the licensing violations but in last week's parent meeting she did state that she is recruiting an additional manager to support the program. The former director was very nice and had many years of experience. She did appear a bit overwhelmed when I brought up an issue to her about not getting a daily report. The owner did follow up with me and the issue has not happened again. With that said, I find neither one to be a 'hot head'. I've read the response from OTM and a parent who has a child that was bitten. I think that the owner and former director may have been too generous in allowing the family to stay considering that there were more than 3 bites.

Current families were notified that Ms. Florence would no longer be the director during the parent meeting last week. The licensing site also referenced a change in management. Honestly, I think the owner needs to be back.

Who has decided to not go to Discovery Time based off their tour?

It sounds like the owner needs to be back to me, too. I understand she had family obligations/emergencies only a month after the center opened. Unfortunately, right after opening is exactly when an owner needs to be there guiding the ship. It will take some time for the dust to settle, but what's that saying? You don't get a second chance to make a first impression?

It sounds to me that opening a preschool was harder than the owner thought.

For the benefit of those considering this daycare, who is Leslie? Thanks.

Leslie Avenue, Ha Ha!

Any updates on this? We took a tour last week, met the new director. Seemed professional and well-run.

I don't get it. I know the daycare is on Leslie Ave., but what does "where did Leslie go?" mean?

There is no staff member named Leslie that I know of.

Maybe her name was something else. She was the preschool teacher and got married?

The allegations I read from OTM were validated by licensing. My DD will not be attending Discovery. I loved the facility and the director was nice, but after reading the reports I just don't feel comfortable anymore.

I worked in child care centers. Anyone of them can get simple violations but these were pretty bad.
