Post rankings of DCPS - % of advanced students in reading and math

If kids are being segregated by ability/race then I think advanced kids do get an advanced curriculum and I think this is what happens at Wilson and possibly at Deal. I agree with what some of the other posters have said about the need to provide every child with a high quality education.

I personally struggle with wanting to send my kids to public through high school - but I don't want to participate in the segregation that exists at Wilson. For me it just reinforces the notion that one group is more privileged than another. BTW my kids go to public elementary school now and we are an African American family.

Makes sense to me, pp.
Match the school to the kid. I sent my kid to DCPS for a long time and when the school wasn't such a good match anymore, I switched her to private. But the difference for me is that I wish she had been the kind of kid who would have thrived at Banneker. I would have been glad to send her there! But I was committed to public school only as long as it worked for my kid. And it did for a long time.
