I think it completely has to do with muscle mass vs fat mass. Two people can be the same weight and look completely different. Here is a good example of two people the same weight, different fitness levels: http://www.hercampus.com/sites/default/files/media_crop/103946/public/samebutdifferent.jpg As someone who is fit, this is exactly why I don't compare myself or pay much attention to the scale. I work out to achieve a certain look, not to get to a particular weight. I have a pair of jeans that I used as my test for if I'm happy with where I'm at. |

I'm 5'8" and 145 pounds. Average build, not athletic, but I look slim.
At about 150, I'm a 10. At about 135, I'm a 6. |
| Huge amount of variation. I guess it depends how much of that weight is carried in the chest, shoulders, and arms. I am 125, 5ft. 6in and always wear a 6.... but if I was 130, I'd for sure be an 8 b/c it all goes to my waist and behind. |

The scale is kind of irrelevant number. There is way too much variation for that number to have much meaning across various people.
This project attempts to portray what "real women" look like, according to their honest weights, heights, sizes, etc. You'll see that even with the same "numbers," there is so much difference. Comparing yourself to others, or other people's numbers, is futile. http://www.mybodygallery.com/ |
| I was size 8 at 150lbs & I'm 5'4. Now I'm a size 2 sometimes 4 at 130lbs. I also have an hourglass frame. Everyone carries weight differently, my sister is 5'5 weighs about 118 and we are the same size but different body types (pear shape & no boobs) |
| 5'7, 155 |
| sounds like a lot of muffin tops |
Thanks a lot - I just burst out laughing at work. |
Butterface, why you mad? |
I'm 5'9 and 138 and I'm a size 4. How can you be an 8? |
| 5'7'', 158lbs |
Muscle mass vs. fat mass, and bust size. Large breasts throw the whole scale out of whack. |
| Man am I wearing the wrong size? I'm 5'4, 133 lbs and wear an 8. Trying to get back to pre preg weight of 128 where I was a size 6. |
+1. WTF with the 5'2 155 size 8 poster? how is that possible? |
