I think its really excessive unless you eat out almost 100% of the time.

I have no mortgage. I think having a $600,000 mortgage is "excessive."

You spend $480/week eating out? Insane.

$480/week is NOT insane.

This is my expense, $600 a week.

I spend $10-15/day for lunch and my DH the same, so that is $100-$150/week for both of us. We both drink Starbucks 1-2 times a day, so that is another $50/week. NOTE we eat dinners at home Monday - Thursday, one reason we used to spend $800/week.

Than we go out to eat dinner on Fridays, I do not know where you guys eat out, but it is easily $100/meal. And we eat brunch on Saturday and Sunday and maybe either 2 dinners or 1 lunch and 1 dinner, so the total is easily $300.

$10-12k family of 3, $285k HHI. Expect this is pretty much the norm around this area, save the very vocal frugalites on DCUM and the nuts raving about dirty hands (not realizing that their ostensibly clean personal kitchens and fridges are probably plagued by more germs than the average resto kitchen).

Not a frugalite or a nut raving about dirty hands. I like fresh real food that isn't laden with salt and extra saturated fat - not too many restaurants cater to that. SO, there may be a third type of 'freak' that doesn't spend 5 figures going out to eat.

How much time each day do you spend shopping and preparing your meals?
