There was nothing particularly anti-Jew in those stories in the bible. There was plenty wrong with the pastor's presentation and focus. He is a social antisemite, and not a deep thinker. I would think there are better reasons to give to ones church than "because we are better than the Jews."
Judge Judaism through a narrow Christian lens and it will be found wanting. Judge Christianity through a Jewish one and it sounds equally vapid. |
We don't focus on it. Judaism has no single official statements to make about the afterlife. There are plenty of references throughout our texts, but there's no single answer we are supposed to believe. I know in a Christian context, this makes little sense, but it really isn't that important to the day to day of being a Jew. We are supposed to be good, to ourselves, each other and the planet. But the only real reason is "because we are supposed to, that's why." |
| Christians and Jews are in this thing together . It's the same God. Jesus was a Jew . As a Christian I believe he was the final sacrifice. Did the Romans kill Jesus ? Did the Jews kill Jesus? No... I killed Jesus. You killed Jesus . My sins put him on that cross. Your sins put him on that cross. He was a gift from God to bridge the gap between perfect love and us (a massive gap). The gift has been offered and it is up to us to accept the gift of Gods brutalized and tortured Son. The story is so radical , loving, and arresting that it changed the world and in my opinion and heart....is our only hope. The bible says it is our "blessed hope". |
