OK, living in the city or not has nothing to do with patronizing chains

Most of the city has very few chain restaurants aside from McD's and Starbucks or Potbelly if you're around Dupont. So it's pretty reasonable to not consider driving from downtown to outside the Beltway to be a default option. Unless you live near Gallery Place, there really aren't that many.

Really?
Ruby Tuesday's, Legal seafood, Bertuccis, Gordon biersch, The capital grille, Maggianos, bucca, Daily grill, Ruth's Chris, smith and wollensky, corner bakery, Rosa Mexicano, Green turtle, McCormick and schmicK's, Cheesecake factory, Cosi, Clyde's, chick filet, chipotle, Moby dicks, Chopt, Chix, California tortilla, 5 guys, Qdoba, panera, etc.

Wow, head in sand.

And about five times as many non-chains. And at least half of what you mentioned are just grab and go lunch places, not sit down dinner places.

no, I wouldn't go. I think only lesbians and very young cute girls would go there. An older, intellectual, woman who is a little on the plain side would just ruin the childish fun of the people who enjoy that kind of thing. And they'd make me feel the same way I'd feel at a monster truck rally, like I was really out of my element.

Still there are a ton of chains. Saying you have no chains or a handful or nothing beyond mcd is just a lie.

At least some posters admitted they did not know about some of the chains.

We have non chains too and more than I can visit in a year. I guess if my kitchen was so small I could not store fresh food, herbs and veggies, I would need more restaurants to eat at.

The question was not do you eat at hooters all the time. It's have you ever in your lifetime and/or would you.

Sure, I would and have about 10 years ago but I am not that much of a liberal fem nor am i a snob.

Really wings and beer, I prefer Urban bar-b-que, but I would goto Hooters if somebody really wanted to.

Over half on the list are sit down. Ruth Chris, rosa Mexicano, smith and wollensky, etc

I just think you guys never live in DC and have no clue they are chains.

Live in = leave

I always used to say that if I were absurdly wealthy I would buy them out and shut them all down just so I don't ever have to drive by that sickening orange logo ever again. And yes, I'm a woman.

LOLOL

I bet your husband goes to the Owl Place on business trips.

Nice try, but my husband wouldn't be caught dead in a place like that. We actually had the conversation once and he had never been to one even when he was in college. Not all men are 20 year old frat boys inside. Some actually respect women. Imagine that.

hahahaha! DC snobbery at its best. "We don't have chains" yeah ok. I can name another ten without even thinking very hard and not repeat a single one the other poster listed. And considering DC is under 70 sq miles that's a hell of a lot of chains for such a small area. Why are they all packed in there like that?? Of course the surrounding states do. They're way bigger.

Can you read? That post indicated it was like that in 1994. It's not about snobbery. It's about having other choices, and so a chain just doesn't even cross your mind.

Chains at the bottom of the bunch.

On Tuesdays kids eat free! Plus, my youngest DS loves tits.

So nobody actually go to the chain restaurants, they just sit there for YEARS and nobody goes there.

Whatever!

I don't eat there because I don't think there is a location near me... but I certainly wouldn't mind it. It's just girls in tight shirts after all - which a lot of waitresses do anyways, frankly. Make your money, ladies!

You went from DC not having many chains to you preferring other restaurants over them. Good for you and everyone that feels as you do. I happen to be one of them. I'm still not dumb enough to go around acting like DC doesn't have a ton packed into such a small area. It's ok not to be snobby about it.

As we dined, we spotted a mouse scurry along the wall of the dining room. I flagged the waitress down, and discretely told her that there was a mouse about. She replied, and I quote, "The little one?" She later came back to our table and assured us that "he doesn't go into the kitchen". Hooters: Good wings. Pleasant, if not terribly bright, waitresses. Hygienic vermin.

LOL!

Women don't eat wings, so I question the validity of this thread.
