Not like their used to be. The city is becoming predominately chain stores. Commercial landlords insist on it. The good non chain restaurants are in the suburbs. |
Yep. The pp is living a fantasy of 1980s DC, or some fictionalized city with interesting shops and book stores. Sorry lady. The $25,000 a month rent killed your dreams and the really authentic Chinese place is in Wheaton. and by the way, Hooters is fine. |
What killed non-chain restaurants (in the last 7 years, this is like a time machine) is DC's ridiculous government regulations for restaurants and small businesses. |
My parents -- now in their 80s-- have been eating at Hooters since they originated. They really like the food, and my dad really likes the women. My parents still have fun together. Married 65 years. |
I have only come to DCUM recently and very glad this humorous thread was resurrected.
Feminist here; no problem with Hooters. Make your living ladies, you are only young and beautiful for half your life! |
I did not work at Hooters but was cocktail a waitress wearing form-fitting or skimpy clothing at several higher-end restos. I made enough money to pay for my own undergrad. Went on to grad school -- twice. As did nearly all my fellow cocktail waitresses. We were in a university town. My sister did it too, in casinos in Vegas and Reno, and she has been chairperson of the Special Education dept. at her school for 10 years now. It is GOOD money when you need to go to college and/or grad school.
We had it; we flaunted it. We made good money. We had fun. Tons of fun. |
This. |
So selling sex not bad as long as not touched right? |
There's no sex happening. |
Hooters waitress = 2 steps up from prostitute
The food is awful, too. |
Um, no. Revealing uniform and prostitution are not even in the same ballpark. I have never been inside a Hooters - not because I am vehemently opposed to the uniforms but because I never think to go to one. |
I don't think it's a big deal either way but when DH worked up in MD for a bit, his coworkers always wanted to go and every said (can't remember-either the wings or ribs) are amazing.
DH said the food was not amazing and the hooters weren't big so it was two thumbs down from him. I hope the chicks get paid well and go on to bigger and better. Nothing to see here, folks. |
My mom took us to hooters. I think it was some women’s lib thing. I don’t remember why. I love buffalo wings but wasn’t very impressed with the wings there. I like larger wings with a crispy crust. Hooters wasn’t working for me |
I am the former cocktail-waitress -turned -tax lawyer poster here. Some women use their looks to get ahead, some use their brains. My sister and I had both. Guess you didn't? |
My mom's friend back in the 80s used to work in those Times-Square peep-shows while getting her PhD. at Columbia. Hooters and waitressing are nothing compared to that! |
