| Does anyone know if there any students playing other Division I sports besides lacrosse? |
| 1 kid committed to play D1 football at William and Mary and I think one other who is looking at Villinova or Upenn for Football. They have 1 soccer player who is junior who made a verbal to Wake Forest but none of the boys listed above have signed anything. |
| I don't believe OP is male and claims to be an alum? Doubtful. If so, it sounds really prissy to me. Many of the elite privates here have DI recruited athletes. Since this area is big on lax, it is no surprise that many of Landon's recruits would be lax players. Jealous much? |

the OP is not an alum. I just don't buy alum's so far removed from high school would post on this website. Current students or maybe young alums who are now presently in college; I'm sure they post from time to time. An alum who graduated from the mid 90's voices his frustration on this website vs emailing the headmaster or alumni director directly. Yeah I guess your an alum who has nothing better to do with his life or odds are its a mother with an ax to grind.

NP, I'm always puzzled when people try to personally identify DCUM posters. In most cases there are many people who share similar views on any particular issue, so even if you have a pretty good idea who the poster may be it would not ever be prudent to identify or confront that individual, because you could be wrong and it's not worth the risk. In this particular thread, where are the Landon filters? The OP stated a point of view about an institution. Lord knows Landon has had many hairy warts in the past. By comparison, this complaint was rather mild. Also, this is the season when schools send out their acceptance letters and the schools are competing often times for the same students, so usually this time of year there are more negative posts circulating about all of the privates. But back to my question about why the Landon PR/filter group didn't tell their boosters to remain mute on this thread is odd The OP wrote about a portion of a group email from a large institution in which they did not agree. So what, you can't please everyone. The responses arguing the merits or flaws of the OP are fair but what is not fair game is trying to figure out who the poster may be. Responses said the OP was a woman, was prissy, and a mother with and axe to grind. It would be prudent for Landon Boosters to avoid such misogynist and violent graphic images in the first place. But, it also makes me wonder why Landon posters always feel the need to make it personal. Rather than arguing the merits of the email or the OP in question, they always make it personal and it always ends with a menacing tone. The post to which I am responding is a couple days old so perhaps the Landon PR Dept. did act to stifle further aggressive posts by their boosters and if that's the case great, if not perhaps they might give this post some consideration. |

Pr dept was on vacation last week so the talking points memo did not go out. ( you do realize this is a joke)
Landon families actually do get to think all by ourselves. It is pointless to keep posting on these forums because no matter what is shown about all the good things going on at the school, some people have opinions that will never change. |

$44 Million and Counting — The Landon United campaign has crossed the $44 million mark, counting the more than $5 million raised thus far this school year. It’s encouraging to see our alumni stepping up to support current students through planned gifts, and equally gratifying to have assistance from parents who see the value of the Landon experience every day. We are thankful for the generosity of each and every donor, including those annual fund gifts which all count toward the campaign. You can still support your class’s Annual Fund goal by contributing online at www.landon.net/makeagift.
Apparently when the fund reaches $50 million Armstrong will retire. I'm not sure that Landon can survive that long. The powers that be need to get their heads out of the sand and take a long, hard look at the mess the school is in. Until real changes are made why would anyone send their boy there? It is really sad.....and weird. |
| Is it true that one of the Landon assistant lax coaches is going to be Head Coach at an area school, and five students are transferring from Landon to follow him? |

| Thank you poster for providing context for the big picture. LAX is a small faction at Landon, which I know from first hand experience, is a school full of talented, well-rounded boys. Not all of whom play, or desire to play, LAX. |

A lot of students have transferred from Landon in recent years. To a certain extent, this may just be a function of the fact that families go there for the lacrosse, and if it turns out not to be a great fit for the player in question (good athlete but not quite good enough for major playing time, for example), the families will turn to other schools. But it seems a little odd that once they are at the school these students and families aren't willing to stay for the community even if the sport isn't going precisely as they had hoped.
The latest report has students transferring to a school not in Landon's conference, the IAC, to a school and conference not known for big-time athletics. So maybe it is a case of athletes hoping to develop more as big fish in a smaller pond. But, if true, it still seems odd that a relatively large number of students would be willing to leave their friends, their classmates, their teachers. Sign of the times, maybe. (Or just totally incorrect rumor -- wouldn't be the first time.) |
Hard to believe anyone interested in playing D1 in college would transfer from Landon to the MAC conference. It is just a different level of lacrosse. Yes more recruitment happens from club based play but it certainly helps to be playing competitive lacrosse on a HS team. |

The Saint Andrews head lacrosse coach, Bobby Horsey has been teaching at Landon for well over 6 years. He has been looking for a head coaching job since he arrived at Landon. He has applied to several head coaching jobs in the past few years and has been shot down several times (DeMatha and St. Albans to name a few) He found his dream job at Saint Andrews in the MAC. It is certainly a great opportunity for him to start fresh and build a program at a school with no tradition of having a strong program. He is a great coach and is great with kids. I believe Saint Andrews is in the bottom of the MAC when it comes to lacrosse so I do think Bobby will have his work cut out for him these first few years. I don't see any Landon players transfering to Saint Andrews for lacrosse purposes unless they are a weaker player and feel they might not ever see the field at Landon. Time will tell. |

Landon has 10 seniors committed to D1 programs and 6 juniors committed to D1 programs. I doubt any talented player who has aspirations to play at the next level would leave the school for Saint Andrews - a school with a no lacrosse tradition whatsoever and even a weaker school academically. I do agree with the PP, maybe a few players who might not ever make the varsity would consider making the switch.
